To think Corrie is so bleak and depressing these days

I remember when it was funny but now it’s all gangs and stabbings and death.

OP posts:
Happyher · 29/01/2025 20:18

Yes I agree. I stopped watching it about 3 months ago because nothing nice or lighthearted was happening. Every social problem has to be featured. Ive not missed it at all

Riversidegirl · 29/01/2025 20:20

All the soaps are full of trauma. The fun and relaxation of watching has gone.

x2boys · 29/01/2025 20:20

I only watch classic corrie, modern corrie is just so over the top ridiculous.

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 29/01/2025 20:21

It used to be funny - l stopped watching years ago cos l felt it lost its northern humour.

Sadcafe · 29/01/2025 20:22

DW loves the soaps, I really don’t, Corrie is awful but not as bad as Emmerdale, that’s depressing, bleak , humourless

Moonmelodies · 29/01/2025 20:22

Prefer Carrie. The original.

Polkadotbabushka · 29/01/2025 20:23

Corrie and eastenders are both a load of crap IMO

modernshmodern · 29/01/2025 20:28

I stopped watching after Aidens suicide way too depressing

thaisweetchill · 29/01/2025 20:36

I stopped watching when Gail's brother (can't remember his name) started murdering people. It was a ridiculous storyline and was the end for me. Such a shame as I used to love emmerdale and Corrie and discussing it with my nan.

UndermyShoeJoe · 29/01/2025 20:41

Haha I just said on another thread I don’t understand who’s still watching these soaps.

I never the dingles and Ian Beale and Kat skater and god knows who else from when I was a young child with my granny watching it.

Surely there is only so many times they can keep repeating the same stories.

I mean for what 10 families in these soaps everyone’s having affairs and dealing drugs and murdering each other.

oh and add in Hollyoaks with what’s his name that warren? And the cook chap.

PippetyPoppetyPie · 29/01/2025 20:44

I stopped watching just before Christmas. It's too violent for me nowadays. No longer the lighthearted programme it once was

LoafofSellotape · 29/01/2025 20:45

I think it's great and the best it's been for years.

Eastie77Returns · 29/01/2025 20:47

Corrie used to have great writers and brilliant, funny characters (Blanche was hands down the funniest character ever). Lost its way a long time ago.

JenniferBooth · 29/01/2025 20:49

Re. Emmerdale Fucking dissapointing where they have gone with the Anthony Ruth Steph storyline
I was hoping we would see Anthony arrested and it all go to court. Would have been an oppertunity to show how hard it is for abuse survivors.

Endofyear · 29/01/2025 22:43

It is particularly grim at the moment 😕 they really need to bring back some humour and ease up on the death and violence!

Viviennemary · 29/01/2025 22:46

Im about to stop watching. Even Craig is being chucked. All the story line are dragged out. It's getting very boring.

AnotherDayAnotherIdea · 29/01/2025 22:50

When Vera trod on Jack's glasses, those were the good old days.

I don't watch it now.

AnotherDayAnotherIdea · 29/01/2025 22:54

The man, the glasses

To think Corrie is so bleak and depressing these days
SereneCapybara · 29/01/2025 22:57

I used to love Corrie when it was funny. Gave up years ago when it tried to become more like Eastenders. Totally lost its unique charm.

OonaStubbs · 29/01/2025 22:59

They should merge Coronation Street and Emmerdale into one soap. And Eastenders should be cancelled as should Hollyoak

ruethewhirl · 29/01/2025 23:01

So true, and I'm sick and tired of the constant peddling of 'issues'. Soaps have always had sad storylines, but they used to be entertainment first and foremost, and I miss those days.

I blame the soap awards tbh and the fact that all the soaps are trying to out-dramatise Eastenders (which is also dire these days) and win awards. It feels like a race to the bottom in some ways.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 29/01/2025 23:08

Agree, I'm a lifetime soap watcher, why does every storyline have to address a social problem?

Joy and every day things are just as fine to broadcast

I feel like the soaps are so intent on capturing the youth but their main viewers are children and their parents who are typically 30s and up

AnotherDayAnotherIdea · 29/01/2025 23:22

Hollyoaks is interesting because it's set in Chester but I've never seen any part of chester appear in it.

GiddyCrab · 29/01/2025 23:34

I stopped watching it several years ago when it became unrealistic. Virtually the whole street had been to prison. Plus there was no fun in it any more.

StrikeAlways · 29/01/2025 23:34

I’m still watching, but I agree. There is a rolling door the the hospital room (how come it’s always a ‘hen’s teeth single room) and the Prison. It’s certainly not an area you’d want to live in!
