Weird looking mole on scalp

MimiDuncan · 27/01/2025 07:44

Hi All,

Few weeks go I felt a mole on the lower scalp near my ear and yesterday I asked my husband to take a photo of it.

it looks like this.

i don’t know if the scaly yellow part is part of the mole or I have a dry scalp and therefore it’s there.

i am freaking out it’s carcinoma 😔
( it looks bigger on the pictures but it’s not too big yet thank god )

I’ve already had some moles removed in the past but they were ok thank god.

i have an appointment with a gp in 3 weeks time and I’ve emailed a dermatologist also.

anyone has any similar mole on their scalp and what was it ?

thank you so much.

Ringworm?

ElizabethBennet3 · 27/01/2025 07:48

It looks like a wart (look up warts on the head). My daughter had a couple that looked exactly like yours. The dermatologist removed them
a couple of years ago and they haven't returned.

RandomButtons · 27/01/2025 07:50

Go see your practice nurse. It doesn’t look something to worry about, but they can advise better.

This was my thought too. I’ve got a small one I’ve had on my scalp for years - doctor said it was nothing to worry about. Get it checked out but don’t panic

MimiDuncan · 27/01/2025 07:56

Thank you.

i hope it is nothing worrisome, I asked in one other group and 2-3 people said it looks like carcinoma because of the scaling part 😔

it scared the life out of me and my appointment is 3 weeks away.

The dermatologist did say to my daughter that they didn't need removing, but he did so as it was visible when she had her hair in plaits 🙂

Yes, yours looks uncannily similar. I'll see if I still have a photo, but it was a while ago now.

I had something very similar and the gp referred me under the 2ww to have it looked at and removed. Thankfully it wasn’t anything sinister.

Here's an image of my daughter's one.

I have one of these on my scalp and had assumed it was a plantar wart.

That's the name of it - I've been wracking my brains and I couldn't think of it!
Obviously get it checked out op, but hopefully everything will be fine.

Hi OP - not a doctor here but you've done the right thing in booking an appointment. I had something that looked very similar on my scalp and the GP took it seriously and gave me an urgent referral to dermatology. There the consultant took one look and said she was pretty confident it was a benign tumour but they would biopsy it to be certain and remove it anyway as it would most likely get caught as I was brushing my hair etc. It did indeed turn out to be benign - something called pyogenic granuloma. The procedure to remove it was very quick and done under local anaesthetic.l

So you're absolutely doing the right thing. It depends how your GP surgery works but you could explain you're worried about cancer and see if they can see you any sooner? All the best 💐

A family member has a mole like this on their scalp. I think from memory it’s more pink than that but the size, texture etc all the same.

Plantar wart is another name for verruca. You only get them on the feet. That’s wat plantar means, as in plantar fasciitis. Warts on the hands are palmar warts. OP’s looks like a common wart to me.

I stand corected 😁
Hopefully you're feeling reassured OP 💐 I hope you can get to see a dermatologist soon.
When my daughter went to her appointment the dermatologist didn't seem concerned in the slightest, asked if she wanted them removing (they could have been left) and took them off there and then. He did send off for biopsies just in case - they were all clear.
