Weird looking mole on scalp

MimiDuncan · 27/01/2025 07:44

Hi All,

Few weeks go I felt a mole on the lower scalp near my ear and yesterday I asked my husband to take a photo of it.

it looks like this.

i don’t know if the scaly yellow part is part of the mole or I have a dry scalp and therefore it’s there.

i am freaking out it’s carcinoma 😔
( it looks bigger on the pictures but it’s not too big yet thank god )

I’ve already had some moles removed in the past but they were ok thank god.

i have an appointment with a gp in 3 weeks time and I’ve emailed a dermatologist also.

anyone has any similar mole on their scalp and what was it ?

thank you so much.

I stand corected 😁
Hopefully you're feeling reassured OP 💐 I hope you can get to see a dermatologist soon.
When my daughter went to her appointment the dermatologist didn't seem concerned in the slightest, asked if she wanted them removing (they could have been left) and took them off there and then. He did send off for biopsies just in case - they were all clear.

Thank you 😊

Go see your practice nurse. It doesn’t look something to worry about, but they can advise better.

Edited

Thank you

I have several moles like this on my head! I saw a dermatologist when I was 7 or 8 who said they were xanthogranuloma. I then got a bit freaked out by one of them which I could see more clearly as I had short hair at the time, when I was 30 or so. I saw a GP who wasn't sure about it either, so referred me to a dermatologist again and had it biopsied and it came back as benign. I'm always glad I have hair to cover them though, as I don't like the way they look.

Do get it checked out, OP, but no need to worry overly. (I know easier said than done)

I honestly couldn't tell you, sorry - not easy to look at moles on your own scalp, so no idea if mine's ever looked scaly. Do get a doctor or nurse to take a look as they will know if it needs any further treatment.

DenialisAriver · 28/01/2025 12:00

Emailing the dermatologist is probably the best course of action, is it a private one that you can book in with?

Yes, yours looks uncannily similar. I'll see if I still have a photo, but it was a while ago now.

Can I just ask a last question please?

was the scaling part yellow for your daughter also?

I can not see it on the picture very well 😊

thank you again

Hi, they were a mixture of colours (she had more than one). I think that was the thing that scared her the most, that and her teenage friends informing her it was cancer 🤦‍♀️
None of them were particularly uniform in shape or colour, but all were benign and looked similar to yours.
When is your appointment? The dermatologist was very unconcerned with dd's.

Hey thank you for your reply.

for me the actual mole is pinkish but on the edges there are yellow scaling, which looks like dandruff, and I don’t know what is that if it’s dandruff or some scaling from the mole 😌

i have a gp appointment for in 2 weeks, and probably he will send me to a dermatologist.

That looks unbelievably similar. 💐
Once we got the referral off the gp it took a while for the dermatologist appointment. We managed to get on a cancellation list as I explained the negative effect on dd's mental health as she was so worried. We were seen 3 days after me making that phone call.
Good luck - I'm sure it'll be fine.

Thank you ☺️

is is skin colour for you also?

It's actually nearer the colour of my nipple , I'm quite pale , sometimes it was itchy . It scared me I've had it looked at twice once via photo during covid and the second time as soon as face to face appointments were allowed.

@MimiDuncan what did the doctor say! Hope all is ok?

666Ted · 09/08/2025 10:50

@MimiDuncan did you find out what it is I have something similar?

Puppylucky · 09/08/2025 10:54

I have three of these on my head - they were diagnosed by the Mole Clinic as sebhorric keratosis - basically flat warty benign growths. I keep meaning to get them removed but have been told that burning them off will leave me with bald patches !
