To ask if you have a tea set?

Do you have a teaset that you use daily?

And by that I mean the whole works - teapot, teacups with saucers, sugar pot, milk jug.

I use mine every day and guests always seem surprised when I make tea on a tray and bring it in in the pot.

I know it's a bit unusual these days but surely not that unusual?

No. We have a teapot which comes out a few times a year when ILs visit. A matching milk jug and (I think) a sugar bowl which never get used. No matching cups though, just mugs.

I have 2 individual teapots with matching cups and saucers (the nesting type). I use them occasionally but mostly for herbal tea rather than normal tea. If I do use them for normal tea, it's usually on the odd occasion with scones, clotted cream and jam. I have miniature milk jugs that don't match.

Mostly if I want tea I only want one so would just make it in a cup/mug.

I have one that belonged to a great grandmother but I got paranoid about lead paint and I'm too scared to use it!
I do fancy getting a set though, John Lewis have some lovely ones by Sara Miller with oriental looking birds on but very pricey and I can't justify the cost

ThinWomansBrain · 19/01/2025 22:37

I do, but don't use it unless I have visitors.
Always make tea in a teapot though.

I have two tea sets: one from my ongoing collection of Villeroy and Boch Petite Fleur and one Spode’s Pink Tower, the plate design we use in the kitchen. The sugar bowl is very tactile.
I use a mug and we have a large white teapot for 3/4 people. I also have a Torquay ware sugar bowl which reminds me “a thing of beauty is a joy for ever”. As you can see, it’s not either of those things…

I was given a bone china teapot for Christmas and I have since added a stand with 2 cups, saucers and spoons and an extremely effective tea cosy. If I took milk or sugar in my tea, I'd have the milk jug and sugar bowl too. Fill it up and it gives me three good-sized cups of tea which is plenty. I love it - using it gives me joy.

I'm at an age though that I don't save things for best or special occasions because I don't know how many best days I have left 😁

@Sgtmajormummy That is gorgeous!

And by that I mean the whole works - teapot, teacups with saucers, sugar pot, milk jug.

I have all these things but not in a matching set, more mismatched, used at weekends for long lazy breakfasts and again for Sunday tea time., Plus a delightful tea strainer.

I do have a matching Chinese tea ceremony set, however, and also a Japanese set.

mitogoshigg · 19/01/2025 22:56

I have all of the paraphernalia but it doesn't get used much. The cups and saucers are in the loft because I prefer mugs, I do use the tea pot for loose tea and the sugar bowl and milk jug for guests who I'm not sure on their preference even if not using the pot.

mitogoshigg · 19/01/2025 22:59

I should add we have the complete dinner service, so side plates, dinner plates, serving ware etc so I have laid it all out occasionally eg during Covid to do a proper afternoon tea for DD's birthday but we prefer to go out for such things

StrawberryWater · 19/01/2025 23:00

Yes.

I don't drink tea or hot drinks though. i get it out for guests to use.

EndorsingPRActice · 19/01/2025 23:07

I have an enamel tea pot I use daily but I use it with mugs! I love getting 3 mugs full out of 1 pot. I inherited a pretty china set with yellow flowers but I’ve never used it, it’s in a box in a cupboard.

Anyotherdude · 19/01/2025 23:09

I’ve had one for over 40 years…
I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I’ve used it all at the same time! (But it came in useful when I hosted a wake)

DoggoQuestions · 19/01/2025 23:09

I do, but not for everyday. Just for 'special'.

Crispynoodle · 19/01/2025 23:27

Denby is pretty indestructible I love it and buy bits here and there when I can

Scarlettpixie · 20/01/2025 00:16

I have a tea set but haven’t used it since my mums funeral 10 years ago. I also have a coffee set which I have never used. I do have a teapot which I go through phases of using but always drink from a mug.

Floralnomad · 20/01/2025 00:20

No . We always make tea in a teapot but use mugs . I don’t own any cups/ saucers anymore . I’d have a sugar bowl if anybody who lived here took sugar but we don’t .

Fifthtimelucky · 20/01/2025 12:35

I have two, but they certainly don't get used daily as neither my husband nor I ever drink tea!
