To ask if you have a tea set?

Do you have a teaset that you use daily?

And by that I mean the whole works - teapot, teacups with saucers, sugar pot, milk jug.

I use mine every day and guests always seem surprised when I make tea on a tray and bring it in in the pot.

I know it's a bit unusual these days but surely not that unusual?

I have 2 full tea sets and several other sets of cups and saucers. I use cups and saucers and a teapot daily but don’t tend to use the milk jugs and sugar bowls very much. I need a nice tea tray.

Choccyscofffy · 19/01/2025 21:28

I have a set but it only gets used once or twice a year.

I have a beautiful white bone china set with an elegant teapot and matching cake plate and cake server, milk jug and teapot. I think it’s Royal Doulton. I use it for afternoon tea parties 😍

@Choccyscofffy that’s beautiful! Looks like a modern version of my mother’s ‘Harlequin’ tea service which my sister has. I got the Wedgewood ‘Susie Cooper’ dinner service 😍

Gymbunny2025 · 19/01/2025 21:33

Can I be your guest/friend please! I don't think I could be bothered but that does sound lovely.

Thank you! I googled the Harlequin and Susie Cooper, they are lovely!

I don't have a matching tea set, but I do have teapots, cups and saucers and jugs. I use cups and saucers periodically, teapot probably twice a week week, same for milk jugs.

RedRiverShore5 · 19/01/2025 21:42

Yes a bone china Wedgewood Charnwood one which gets used very occasionally, it was my DMs, I think the problem nowadays is that it doesn't go in the dishwasher as the gold rim probably wouldn't survive

RedRiverShore5 · 19/01/2025 21:45

The cups on mine are tiny, I don't think they used to swill tea down in those days

QueSyrahSyrah · 19/01/2025 21:48

We have a teapot and the other day I bought a milk jug and sugar bowl as I'm sick of taking the milk carton and bag of sugar out to guests. I wouldn't say we use them daily though.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 19/01/2025 21:49

I had a set of 6 cups and saucers (no matching teapot or jug) for over 30 years until fairly recently. They were an unwanted wedding present and it felt rude to get rid of them, but we've completely lost touch with the friends who gave them to us, so we finally donated them to a charity shop. I don't like tea, DH doesn't like tea, we don't have that many visitors and none who would be offended to be offered tea in a mug.

Commonsense22 · 19/01/2025 21:51

I have one i use with guests. Love it.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 19/01/2025 21:52

I have a full tea set but use it mainly at weekends, I also have other teapots and they get good use, it's nice of an evening to make a big pot of tea, if you stand it on the hearth in front of the fire it stays warm for ages but can over steep. The milk jug gets fair use too, but we tend to use mugs day to day

ETA I'm 40 now but I bought a teapot when I bought my first flat at 25, the full teaset came as a housewarming gift from MIL when we bought our first house together, she knows I like pretty things and DH drinks tea by the gallon

Evenstar · 19/01/2025 21:53

I have an Emma Bridgewater teapot, which was a gift, never used and two inherited tea services never used. I would honestly like to let the tea services go, but one was my parents’ wedding set and the other belonged to a great aunt, and I just feel I can’t do it ☹️

EveryDayisFriday · 19/01/2025 21:54

I have mugs, a teapot and a milk jug. Not as part of a matching set though. I don't really use the teapot and milk jug. I'm the only one who drinks tea so I just make single brews in a mug.

AllTheChaos · 19/01/2025 21:59

I do! My teapot is in nigh on constant use, though I only get out the milk jug or sugar bowl if I have guests (as I don’t have either in my tea). I used to have matching cups etc but over the years some got broken, and I got various vintage ones as gifts, so now it is all wonderfully eclectic and I love it!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/01/2025 22:00

I do, actually, given to us by my very elderly mother in law, whose own mother was given it as a wedding gift. Its white with some blue. There are a lot of pieces, including tiny cake/biscuits plates, and a bigger bowl of uncertain purpose.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/01/2025 22:01

(Never used, but we dare not get rid of it).

sanityisamyth · 19/01/2025 22:04

No but I don't really drink hot drinks. A cup of tea maybe at a friend's to be polite but I never make it at home.

DazedAndConfused321 · 19/01/2025 22:14

Yes, tea in cups and saucers always. I have a coffee set too. And multiple sets in a cupboard that seems to be ever expanding...

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 19/01/2025 22:20

I have a full tea set and coffee set that we received as wedding presents along with matching dinner service when we got married in 2000.
All the cups and saucers have still got John Lewis sticky labels on the bottom.

I thought they just topped up from the tea pot?

I do have one I use if people are round for tea and cakes. I don’t drink tea so wouldn’t otherwise use the teapot.

battairzeedurgzome · 19/01/2025 22:27

I've got half of one.
