They have to be here somewhere!
I'm in a panic as I've lost an important set of keys.
I have not lost something, like keys or a phone or a wallet , in more than a dozen years. I am not the one that loses things, I find the things, ffs.
I have tossed the car, my purses, coats, counter tops, side tables, boot rack (even inside boots incase it fell off the key rack) I'm losing my mind!

I am trying to be methodical, but I can't actually remember the last time I used them.
It's been a few weeks, as any time I have gone out it has been with other people , so I wasn't the one locking up, or driving.

Please, suggest places I may not have thought of, or maybe tell me where you've found yours, so I can check there too?
I have to find these

Also, my DC are grown, so it wasn't them

Mysteryfemale · 13/01/2025 20:13

Might not be the DC but do you have a DP?

Offcom · 13/01/2025 20:13

Stressssss!

If there’s a hole in a coat pocket then things can fall into the coat lining.

But my go to strategy when I’ve lost something is to blame someone else and then instantly realise said item is stapled to my own face.

twistingmymelons · 13/01/2025 20:14

I discovered I had put my passport out for recycling. Too late...Could they have gone in there?

Joyfulspringflowers · 13/01/2025 20:14

I frequently misplace keys and glasses and earrings..
The first thing I do is check all my pockets - I've an awful habit of putting keys and glasses in pockets.
I try and think back to the last time i remember using the missing thing , and what I was wearing or doing at the time.

Alwaysoneoddsock · 13/01/2025 20:15

Places I’ve found things:

Under a stair runner
Inside a shoe
Inside a kitchen drawer where you would never have put them
Between the mattress and the bed frame
In a bag I’d checked twenty times
In a bag I forgot I even had let alone used.

quietlycontent · 13/01/2025 20:17

In the pocket of a bag you don't use very often??

DaftyLass · 13/01/2025 20:22

I've checked my gym bag (not often used!) my swim bag, and my backpack
I've checked DH's coat pockets

There real worry knot is because we donated a bunch of winter coats right before Christmas. DH says he checked all the pockets (tbf he found his missing glove in the process) but I wasn't there to see.

I worry it got grabbed in the cleaning before Christmas guest, and got "set aside"
(lovely DH but he does these things) , or packed away when Christmas got put away

In a drawer? Coat/jacket/dressing gown pocket you haven't worn for a while?
In a pot/vase on windowsill?
On top of microwave/fridge?

Keysfound · 13/01/2025 20:27

Hole in handbag lining? Hole in coat lining? That’s where I have found keys lost for weeks. Hope you find them soon.

CrushingOnRubies · 13/01/2025 20:50

Have you checked handbags

Can you remember what you did or what you wearing when you last used them?

Checked plastic bags, when hands are full with lots of bags say after Christmas shopping I put keys in any handy bag

DaftyLass · 13/01/2025 23:50

The last time I saw them for certain, they were in the cup holder in the car, as I was driving.
I m sure I grabbed them out, but I don't actually remember it, and can't remember seeing them since.
I have checked most of the places suggested, I am going back over them gain, and basically won't quit , even if I spend the next week doing a fingertip search of the house

They haaaave to be here!

ST anthony St Anthony
Please find @DaftyLass keys for me.

Works every time!

FreezingJane · 14/01/2025 00:05

Check under the seat of the car when it's light. There is a special place back there for lost bits.

Check the bottom of the washing basket(s).

Check the crazy drawers that people put junk into (spare batteries/remotes/cables).

Check if any guests you had over Christmas might've put them someone 'safe'.

Check everything everyone else has checked - because they likely didn't check correctly!!

My DH spent a whole day looking for a set of car keys. 8 whole hours. My DD (3 at the time) had kindly inserted them into a bass speaker in the lounge, which I spotted after flailing around on the sofa, in a depressed heap. DH nearly lost his mind that day.

dynamiccactus · 14/01/2025 20:16

You are not going to like my answer OP. We lost a key for our car before the first covid lockdown.

We still have that car.

We still don't have the key. Yes, five years on.

Goodness knows where it went, we have looked in every cupboard, box, every suitcase, every bag, every coat pocket, you name it, we've looked there.

LoyalCrab · 14/01/2025 20:18

last time we misplaced the house keys, we found them under the sink on top of the bin bags. Check places you’d think they couldn’t possibly be.

SnaccidentsHappen · 14/01/2025 20:18

I am the same, have misplaced my house back in I think November. It's a single key on a keyring, I have checked bags and jackets multiple times and still no luck

DaftyLass · 14/01/2025 20:34

I am losing my mind, it is stressing me out, but at least the house is getting an almighty decluttering in the process

Also, I'm not really religious, but keep those prayers coming, it can't hurt!

Do what I did, lose your car key, pay nearly £400 for a new one and then immediately find the lost key under the boot liner.

TrixieFatell · 14/01/2025 20:36

I lost my car key a few years ago. We searched everywhere, ended up getting new ones made as I couldn't find them. Almost 15years later I found it in a bag I had forgotten I had.

Pieandchips999 · 14/01/2025 20:38

Mine were inside the sofa bed when this happened. Things fall down the sides a lot but somehow the keys got folded inside the bed or in some other weird place and only came out when I was pulling out the whole thing hunting for a suddenly arrived weird smell of cheese 🤣 which turned out to be cheese dreamies. Thanks cats if you hadn't knocked the bag over into the sofa when trying to rob us blind for snacks I still wouldn't have my keys. I think they slid out my pocket and got caught in it the last time I opened it out.

That's why we haven't done it. We just knew that we'd find it within days if we did.

We'll get a replacement if we want to sell the car, or if we lose the other key as well!

By which time I assume the car had long been sold on/scrapped :)

We'd had three cars since in that time. I was so annoyed when I found them, wish they'd stayed lost 😆

cfmtb · 14/01/2025 22:03

We lost ours for 6 months. I accidentally pulled out all of my baking trays from the cupboard, and what skids across the floor? Just the missing keys.
NO idea how on Earth they got in the middle of a load of baking trays we never use.
