Husband acting out of character

WorriedWifie · 11/01/2025 17:46

My husband has been acting quite out of character in the past week. I asked him to do something yesterday and he actually did it today. Normally it would take him weeks. He decided he was having salad for dinner tonight, he usually hates salad. I need something from the shop after dinner and he offered to go, instead of me having to ask.

AIBU to think there is something I don't know? Or maybe he's just made a New Year's resolution I don't know about? Not sure what to think.

Has someone sent him this competence porn thread on MN?

I shared it with a bloke at work and it was an eye opener for him. It appears raising the bar has gone well and led to “added benefits “

Maybe you need to not worry and lean in 😉

I haven't seen that. I'll need to go look it up.

I have never heard of such a thing. Most likely he's been swapped with an alien impersonator.

@WorriedWifie

There is another thread where competence porn was coined but this one is the one I shared. Think every man would benefit from a read lol

Very eye-opening! Who knew we were so shallow!

Maybe I should just lean in, maybe I'm too suspicious.

This is mumsnet, so he is obviously having a affair

steff13 · 11/01/2025 19:06

Maybe he made New Year's resolutions to be more cooperative and eat better.

mossylog · 11/01/2025 19:11

Could be self improvement— stranger things have happened!

Chipbarmandgravy · 11/01/2025 19:23

@WorriedWifie

Ha! Only time will tell!

If he starts to look like Pete from Gavin and Stacey and then maybe then is time for concern.

In the mean time enjoy the benefits 😊

Snowmanscarf · 11/01/2025 19:26

Are there any suspicious changes - obsessed with phone, ‘working late’, increase interest in his appearance etc?

He has decided to stop smoking. He was off last week, extended Christmas holiday. No phone action that I've noticed.

Well...
In the case of your DH it's probably just a happy series of events! 😂

In the case of my exDH it was things like nobly offering to drive my mum home after Christmas (3 hrs each way) that made me wonder.

It was the start of him distancing himself from the family (which he totally denied) and it all ended in finding out he was having an affair.

He was always finding opportunities to be away from home or be alone so that he could be texting/phoning.

Or perimenopausal. Anyway, you have to LTB😅

Bunnybear42 · 11/01/2025 21:46

I found out my DH had a coke habit from behaving like that- so used any opportunity to go out / and be alone and also helped out more round the house as felt a bit guilty I think - that's what made me the most suspicious- taking out bins without being asked several times 😂 hopefully in your case he's just trying to be a better partner but be on your guard just in case !

Axelotl · 11/01/2025 21:47

Could be his new year's resolution. Mine is also to eat more salads. Not acted on it yet, but it is my resolution...

Mine started diet, swapped sausage rolls for apples 🍎. 10 years later he is still a fat bastard, married to his affair partner.

Put the Apple in his mouth and cook him for next christmas.

WhatYouEgg · 11/01/2025 21:58

Maybe he's having crafty cigarettes?

WorriedWifie · 11/01/2025 23:39

So it's either a drug habit, an affair or just a new year resolution. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it is the latter!

OP posts:
Barney16 · 11/01/2025 23:55

If he roasts a chicken and makes it last for ten meals you are in real trouble 🙂

CalicoPusscat · 12/01/2025 00:22

He might need to keep busy in the absence of cigarettes. How's he doing with that?

Now I'm worried, this is what he's cooking for dinner tonight!
