What’s in your dream packed lunch?

User3639305 · 04/01/2025 23:07

I have gestational diabetes and, as a result, haven’t eaten a single refined carbohydrate in over six months. But my sugar-hating little passenger is shortly being evicted by c-section, and I am planning my packed lunch to take to hospital for after s/he is out.

So tell me - if you had the freedom to choose your absolute dream packed lunch, after half a year of self-control and denial, what would you include to ensure it was the packed lunch to end all packed lunches?

Ham, cheese and pickle sandwiches on thick bread. Buttered. A massive slice of parkin style cake and a large thermos of coffee

A big wedge of homemade cake. A nice piece of fruit and egg & cress sandwiches on soft white bread. Simple tastes, me!

I like to have something delicious I've made the night before. Pasta, noodle stir-fry, something like that. I like it cold from a tupperware dish.

User3639305 · 04/01/2025 23:11

Stir fry is infinitely better the next day in my opinion. Slurping up cold noodles is so satisfying.

Girl after my own heart! Doesn’t need to be fancy, just homemade and comforting.

Adult lunch able- salted crackers, sliced cheddar, pate, some chutney all in little compartments.

And a tub of pesto pasta Grin

The best donuts I ever had were on the maternity ward after the birth. Prem baby, which meant that (a) I'd not had to put up with GD as long as you, and (b) I didn't get a chance to plan that meal. But fortunately that night's hospital menu came up with the donuts.

Ooo take plenty of food! Snacks that are easy to eat one handed in bed. Kind bars and naked bars. Take some nice drinks as well.

GreekSun · 04/01/2025 23:13

Tiger baguette. Good quality ham. ALL of the butter.

Hadn’t even thought of drinks yet!

I’m so excited to eat fresh fruit. Apart from berries I haven’t been able to tolerate it at all. I think the very first thing I will eat once my placenta is delivered is a really juicy Pink Lady apple.

Cheese, tomato, and pickle sandwich on great seeded bread. Walkers Thai sweet chilli sensations. A tub of hummus and some fresh carrot sticks, some malt loaf with ALL of the butter.

User3639305 · 04/01/2025 23:17

Cheese and pickle is food of the gods.

Ummmm probably pesto pasta with sundried tomato's and lots of cheese. Some berries and some nice choccy.

Heads up, I don't know if this is a me thing but I had no appetite for about 4 weeks after my c section, albeit was an emergency one.

ThinWomansBrain · 04/01/2025 23:19

Looking forward to making a batch of lentil and vegetable soup for lunches at work next week.
Not so good if no microwave available.

Add in a pack of salt and vinegar crisps for a snack later in the afternoon, and this is the perfect lunch. Nice work @yogasam.

One of those bento box things simply because I love the aesthetic and you want your dream packed lunch to look lovely! In my dream each layer is different ‘thing’

Layer 1: cold noodles with vegetables, tofu and brunch vegetables. Ideally the noodles have been cooked to be used in a cold dish and so aren’t all clumped together (as in a leftover stir fry from the evening before)

Layer 2: homemade onigiri bc I’ve been going to wasabi way too much recently and want to make some onigiri by hand instead of buying all the time!

Layer 3: sliced mango with lime wedge. Small almond chocolate bar.

On the side: in a thermos, a hot miso soup (yum) and a packet of popcorn/crisps

Drink: a Diet Coke (yum), smoothie (healthy) and bottle of water (hydration)

realise this is completely impractical for taking to the hospital but I got carried away in the dream…

good luck with your baby!

I had hyperemesis - barely ate during pregnancy
the joy and novelty of catching up after I gave birth and for weeks afterwards was immense.
I had fresh apricots soon after the birth and buttered toast.

I was very slim as a result (plus breastfeeding) and ate 4-5 meals daily for quite a few weeks afterwards. I recall having delicious cold roast beef sandwiches with butter in seeded bread for mid morning snack (not lunch).

Optigan · 04/01/2025 23:21

Coronation chicken baguette, thick cut cheese and onion crisps, thick and creamy raspberry yoghurt and a can of full fat coke.

LeaveALittleNote · 04/01/2025 23:21

Smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich. Box of mixed, dressed salad. Crisps. Sabre humous.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 04/01/2025 23:21

Cheese and Branston on granary bread, pickled onion Monster Munch, piece of homemade cake, a flask of weak Kia Ora. I really miss primary school 😞
