Whole chicken expired 30th

Notrynajudge · 31/12/2024 15:16

Just checked my chicken in the fridge I was planning to roast tomorrow.

Blasted thing expired yesterday. WIBU to keep until tomorrow or should I chuck in the oven today and have a New Year's Eve roast instead?

Cook it asap.

LoafofSellotape · 31/12/2024 15:17

Cook it now and have it cold ,I wouldn't leave it any later than today .

MorrisonsPlatter · 31/12/2024 15:18

I think it expired some days ago. It will be fine.

StormingNorman · 31/12/2024 15:19

I would cook it today but wouldn’t wait until tomorrow.

I'm normally pretty laissez-faire about dates if it smells ok, but chicken and fish are the hills I'm prepared to die on(or rather not!) Cook it today

CheshireCats · 31/12/2024 15:20

I wouldn't eat out of date chicken. Personally, I wouldn't risk it .

TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack · 31/12/2024 15:22

If it smells ok it’ll be fine. Salmonella is the risk with chicken so it'll be fine if cooked properly

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 31/12/2024 15:23

Sniff test it. I'd cook it today though

WhatALoadofpickledOnions · 31/12/2024 15:23

Make sure it smells okay, looks okay, isn't slimy, has been kept nice and cold. If yes to the previous, cook it right away, and then wrap tightly, and refridgerate. Then tomorrow carve and warm slices gently in gravy; it'll ensure it is nice and moist. If no, bin it. We have had meat in date that has clearly gone off, you're the best judge.

purplecorkheart · 31/12/2024 15:24

I would judge by the smell fresh. My experience with a lot of chicken is that it is gone off before the expire date.

If it smells OK I would go today.

suburburban · 31/12/2024 15:25

Smell it and cook if ok

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 31/12/2024 15:26

Do the sniff test and if it doesn't smell off then cook it today.

Bakedpumpkin · 31/12/2024 15:26

If smells ok I would cook now and just reheat to eat

Notrynajudge · 31/12/2024 15:29

Thank you for responding. Will open it for a sniff now. All being well it'll be a roast dinner tonight and then we'll have the party food and fajitas planned for tonight tomorrow.

Just DCs and I, and their dad is coming over.

Don't ask about feeding the ExH that's another thread.

I’ve not only fed my ex and his wife, they’ve stayed in our house overnight. No judgement from me. Hope the chicken’s delicious.

murasaki · 31/12/2024 15:36

Praying for no bad smell. You'll know instantly if it's off.

Well if it fails the sniff test then definitely feed it to your XDH and tell him you're starting veganuary a day early.

I was about to say the chicken needs to be binned but then read about ExH.

Give him the chicken.

You and DC eat something else just in case

Rainbow450 · 31/12/2024 15:44

I personally wouldn't even cook today as its date was yesterday.

Hadalifeonce · 31/12/2024 15:47

I would have no problem cooking it today, tomorrow or the day after.

Nor me. I ate a yogurt that was a month past its bb date yesterday. It was delicious and I’m obviously still here.

BlackChunkyBoots · 31/12/2024 15:50

Sniff it and see. Then blast the bastard.

The Ex or the chicken?
