I'd particularly like to hear from anyone that have cured driving anxiety with hypnosis. But I'm about to spend a lot of money so anyone's experience of hypnosis is appreciated x

I was hypnotised to quit smoking it worked. If you go on you tube there are millions of hypnosis, specify your needs n try at home.

Wow! How long have you been off the cigarettes?

Any YouTube channels you'd recommend?

Following with interest. I've developed anxiety around driving, particularly around joining the motorway and roundabouts!

Also following.

My DH, he had severe anxiety and phobias all his life (his mother walked out on her young kids went off with another man) many years on anti deps. He's from sarf London was on the motor trade, didn't "believe" in hypnosis! (I actually ended up on stage with Darren Brown and after the show so many people asked if I secretly worked with him!My ds recommended this lady. DH was given a disk he was meant to listen to,to get used to her voice....he didn't! Course he didn't... then he had his appointment. Came home,it weirdly "cured" his extreme fear of spiders, although they weren't mentioned. He told me he wasn't hypnotized, then that she told him that he had a magnet on his forehead and to put his hand on it. I asked what happened, guess what...he couldn't remove his hand. This was a long time ago,it wasn't cheap, he kept making excuses for not going. After 3 sessions, any further sessions were free. It didn't last for ever, but he didn't go back.

I would be very wary of "self hypnosis",as it is an alternative state of consciousness, meditation yes, but with hypnosis you are returned to the "now". I had severe anxiety about driving after being rammed off the road by a drunk driver, car overturned 3 times and I was trapped. I couldn't even cross the road! I signed up for the Advanced Driving test and passed with a Police examiner.

I had bad anxiety in my 20's. Didn't know what to do. I tried cbt, medication, massages. Nothing seemed to penetrate.

As a last resort I tried hypnosis alongside coaching ~ same person and appointment. It turned my life around.

I still take medication, I think I always will but the hypnosis helped me look at things from a different angle, and helped me remain calm when faced with my triggers. In fact it was through hypnosis I was able to identify my triggers.

Do your research and be prepared to pay good money for the right person.

I wish you the best of luck x

Over the years I saw 5 hypnotherapists for anxiety and phobias. None worked

15 years.
I think this gives a good explanation of the process-

If you do go to private sessions its good idea to check https://www.professionalstandards.org.uk/check-practitioners/practitioner/hypnotherapist

good luck

I tried to get DH sessions with Paul McKenna, but he wasn't doing one to ones..I have been in 3 vehicular entrapments in my life...none of which were caused by me or my fault. I'm extremely claustrophobic,a very bad passenger, because I am not in control, but the advanced driving test worked for me.

Before you spend any money you should be offered a free session to make sure your subconscious is willing and able to respond. It doesn't work for about 10-15% people (no one knows why) so it's important to check before you go ahead.

cherrytree12345 · 31/12/2024 10:16

Yes I tried it. I was a passenger in a car when trailer hit us from the side, I could see it was going to happen - it was like slow motion. Since then I have been anxious with traffic at the side of the car, waiting for them to pull into my car. This is as a passenger or driving. I went to a hypnotherapist who had excellent reviews for driving problems but unfortunately it didn't work for me. I had two sessions. I went under hypnosis but my fears were too ingrained I think. I'm fine on a coach or bus, but feel vulnerable in a car.

GreyCarpet · 31/12/2024 10:20

I had hypnotherapy as a teenager for anxiety/panic attacks.

The panic attacks almost stopped and I've only had occasional ones since but it didn't really do much to address the underlying anxiety.

YetanotherSarah · 31/12/2024 10:31

I'm a solution-focused hypnotherapist and have successfully worked with many people who had anxiety about driving. It's actually a very common form of anxiety. Solution-focused hypnotherapy is a very gentle yet incredibly effective form of therapy. It's been the most effective form of therapy for my daughter who suffered from severe anxiety and OCD for several years. Just make sure you're comfortable with the therapist and don't worry about shopping around! Most will offer you a free of charge initial consultation to make sure that you understand the process and that you're comfortable. Happy to answer any specific questions you have - good luck! xx

ADCL2018 · 31/12/2024 10:35

I had hypnotherapy that successfully cured my phobia of needles. I was a sceptic but it really did work. Around 6 years later I developed really bad generalised anxiety and tried many methods including hypnotherapy but unfortunately it didn't work for that.

PrincessFairyWren · 31/12/2024 11:00

Not for anxiety but for a very specific phobia that I have. After one session it made things way better after one session so that I was still uncomfortable but not absolutely flipping out. After a couple of years I went through a very stressful situation unrelated to my phobia but it “returned” but not as bad so went back for another session. All up three sessions and I would recommend it.

Projectme · 31/12/2024 11:05

Hypnosis didn't 'cure' my anxiety but it definitely helped. I would recommend that you find someone IRL rather than doing stuff from YouTube for this kind of thing.

I had hypnosis for insomnia/anxiety and it did help get me out of a rut. Expensive sessions but very useful

Headstarttohappiness · 31/12/2024 11:24

I had one in person hypnotherapy session for stopping smoking. He gave me a tape recording of the session too ( it was 30years ago!)
I had smoked cigarettes 20 a day for about 7 years. It really helped- I still needed some willpower but it made it really easy somehow.
I know of people using it successfully for medical issues IBS etc at St Mark’s Hospital.

I hope it works for you too!

Shattereddreamsparkway · 31/12/2024 12:50

I used hypnosis to overcome my driving lesson and test anxiety. I was fine practicing with my partner but found having lessons almost unbearable. Long story, changed instructors and used hypnosis and I passed 1st time. Good luck OP
