So, at age 47, am I classed as a senior?

Feeling depressed

Scrolling on here and saw an advert for intermittent fasting…for seniors. It had pictures of all the different ages of women, up to about 80 I think. The youngest category was age 46-51

So age 46 upwards is classed as being a senior 😩

Pay no heed.

OolongTeaDrinker · 30/12/2024 19:56

Don’t be ridiculous - 40s are and always have been middle age. Don’t believe everything you see online, that way madness lies.

DappledThings · 30/12/2024 19:57

Yes you are being very unreasonable to think that a random advert designed just to get attention should affect how you feel about yourself.

Do you think you're an OAP? No, there you go then. Absolute nonsense.

Birdscratch · 30/12/2024 19:57

Do you get a discount? I have a couple of years to go but I’d lie for 20% off.

Dearg · 30/12/2024 19:57

Well fuck that! I am 63 and think I am middle aged .. senior is like 70+ …

OctaviaWeber · 30/12/2024 19:59

Senior is always at least 15 years older than me!

47 - still in the first flush of youth

Haveanaiceday · 30/12/2024 20:00

7 is senior for dogs and at 7 dog years to one human year that means 49 - so you have a couple of years before we change your food.

HaddyAbrams · 30/12/2024 20:00

I've seen that advert. It didn't occur to me to do anything other than laugh. Middle aged is my age +10. So senior must be at least 10 years more than that.

bellocchild · 30/12/2024 20:01

Nooo! I'm 76 and just beginning to feel old!

MrsTigerface · 30/12/2024 20:16

I’m nearly 60. You’re a nipper! Take no notice of these daft ads, young ‘un xxx

To fasting, or being senior? 😂

To the silly advert. I think I know the one OP means. There's about four types of bellies/stomachs/whatever all depicted with horrifying looking yellow visceral fat and the thing you need to do is fast for various hours of the day to make things right again.

This differs according to your age. It's just a silly ad. Since when was "Fasting" just not eating between meals. Depends what you do. Your physical activity and so on and so forth. Just diet industry propaganda in my book.

It's just a scaremongering ad to make everybody feel horrible about themselves.

Everything is fear based these days. If you don't use such and such hair product, your hair will be crap, or whatever.

I was actually meaning that fasting (IMHO) is just as ridiculous as being senior at 46. There may well be some science to it, but personally, I would rather reduce intake over the week than to cut out for whole days at a time. Then again, I am not much good with denial.

Thewrongdoor · 30/12/2024 20:44

I was put under the care of the elderly care clinic at a hospital visit. I’m 57.

I used fasting to r3verse insulin resistance and it causes autophagy, which clears up dead cells so can reverse ageing, I think it’s a pretty good protocol.

stargazerlil · 30/12/2024 20:46

Senior is post pension age. Even later 80 maybe.

HellsBalls · 30/12/2024 20:50

47 is extremely late middle age, or a senior. My friend is having her first baby at just turned 40, and is classed as a geriatric mother.
People who think they are middle aged at 50 are deluded.

Collette78 · 30/12/2024 20:54

I hope not 😂 … however I did see something earlier that said 38 is middle aged because the average life expectancy is 76 so that was depressing.

Thepeopleversuswork · 30/12/2024 20:56

Who cares? I couldn't give a shiny shit what demographic some algorithm puts me in.

OP internet advertising is about as nuanced as a drunk elephant in charge of a fire engine. If you stopped to worry about whether it thinks you're over the hill you would never leave the house.

Hardly middle aged either, unless they think they are getting to 96.

Well, I have been called, "The boa constrictor" I can eat quite a big dinner then go off food again for a while. Then again, I work in catering and hospitality so you kind of see food differently. I know, "Never trust a skinny cook" but I'm more waitress/sommelier.

How old are you out of interest?

Looking around at friends and people my age, no way are we classed as seniors
