Do I need to go to hospital?

AandEornot · 27/12/2024 17:13

I have had back pain come on quite quickly this afternoon. I am 7 weeks postpartum and breastfeeding if that is relevant. It feels like squeezing pain in my mid back, and I feel quite sick too. No position relieves it and it is as bad sitting still as it is with movement. I have never felt pain quite like this before. Could a trapped nerve come on so fast?

I am only in my 20s but scared it could be cardiac

Should I get checked?

What did 111 say?

Lavender14 · 27/12/2024 17:16

Did you have a c section? I would probably call the out of hours Dr since you're only recently post partum.

YouLookinSusBro · 27/12/2024 17:16

Ring 111 and get triaged. How are your bowels?

111?
Anyone else with you?
Have you googled how to ease back pain & tried any?
Deep calm breaths dont wind yourself up further
Could it be trapped wind?

Yes my husband. Could be but doesn’t feel like it. I know that can be agony but it’s a different pain

DH actually works for the NHS and he reckons if I gave those symptoms to 111 they would send an ambulance, which I don’t want because I could take myself to hospital

How’s your breathing? Any breathlessness?
Probably trapped wind/pulled muscle ( I had a terrible bit in my mid back when I had babies, it hurt on and off for years - went to a chiro who finally sorted it for me but the pain when he was doing it was worse than childbirth)
Hope it gets better soon and you get some advice from 111?

Hskatkat · 27/12/2024 17:21

I think you can do 111 on a call or the internet.
Have you been to the toilet ?
Hoes your temp?

HowcanIhelp123 · 27/12/2024 17:21

Is it location of epidural/spinal?

Like mid back and central so maybe? Wouldn’t I have had pain sooner than that though?

When I had my gallbladder attack ( so bad) two other ppl were blue lighted in with trapped wind. It's really common.
Do you have pain in your chest ?
Front or back?

Hskatkat · 27/12/2024 17:24

If I were you I would use 111.
It's better to be safe , you will get proper advise , none of us should try to diagnose you.

Sorry but that's definitely not necessarily correct
I used to work for 111. You can decline the ambulance even if they suggest. Just ring.

Hskatkat · 27/12/2024 17:26

Info her Medical help

Not necessarily. Rare but I do know one who had an issue with the site and a vertebrae popped out a bit or ruptured or something and needed it sorting.

OutIsay · 27/12/2024 17:47

Do 111 online if you don't want to ring them.

Jeeeeez · 27/12/2024 17:49

Post epidural complications are rare but can happen. Things like increased pain, loss of motor function, or infection, lack control with weeing or poo’ing etc. Does it ease with pain relief? Is your c-section scar ok? Trapped wind can be agony. You could always ask 111 or ring post labour ward for advice.

Havalona · 27/12/2024 17:56

Try and take control and make plan.

Ring 111
If they advise hospital get someone to mind baby.
Express what you can and store it
Pack a bag with essentials
Get to hospital.

If they dont say hospital, take it from there. Hope you'll be OK.

KrisAkabusi · 27/12/2024 17:56

For fucks sake! You think it might be cardiac. You don't want to ring 111 in case they send an ambulance. Your husband thinks your symptoms indicate you need an ambulance. But youre on mumsnet asking for strangers' opinions. Phone 111! People like you make me genuinely angry. Do what you know needs to be done and look after your health! Instead of using stalling tactics here and potentially making things worse.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 27/12/2024 18:11

I would ring 111. If your husband is saying they will send an ambulance you can say you can make your own way. But it needs seeing by the sound of it.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 27/12/2024 18:15

I’m sure hospital staff would rather see you, check you over and if nothing major send you home than you wait and it turns out to be something serious.

Normallynumb · 27/12/2024 18:16

My first thought is a Kidney infection but as you're so recently PP, it's wise to get yourself checked out

Hskatkat · 27/12/2024 18:16

You can ring to cancel ambulances .
I did last week when a gentleman fell into the road ( I wasn't first to offer help but they couldn't stay )
I went through what had happened asked meds etc and he was able to stand.
I rang to cancel ambulances as he wasn't a medical priority ( talking conscious etc etc) it would have been at least two hours according to the man that rang)
drove him to A&E with no issues

VoltaireMittyDream · 27/12/2024 18:19

Take a wind-eze and see if that makes a difference. I had this same excruciating mid-back pain the day after my c section and honestly thought there was something very broken in my spine. Took a wind relief tablet and it was completely gone within ten mins.
