It’s just DH and I. Kids are all grown up. What do you do all day? We’re just sat watching sky news and it feels a bit like a normal Sunday. It’s sunny outside and it all feels a bit weird!
interested to hear what other couples with no kids so on Christmas Day

OP posts:

We had a nice breakfast with bucks fizz. Played some Xmas music. House is toasty. New books to read. Film later. Dinner and then we'll play cards, eat snacks, drink wine etc

VickyEadieofThigh · 25/12/2024 11:53

My partner (we're both women) and I never had kids and we've had Xmas alone together almost every one of our 25 Christmases together. I have to say that this year seems a bit bleak and I'm not sure why.

LoafofSellotape · 25/12/2024 11:54

We would have a lovely lunch either out somewhere or at home, open presents and then go for a walk and then watch a film when we got home .

As long as everyone is happy it doesn't really matter what you do 😊

KimberleyClark · 25/12/2024 11:54

We would normally be seeing DB, SIL and DN. But they have gone to SIL parents so it’s just us. We are looking after their dog and I'm just back from a walk in the park. We plan to have a lovely relaxed day just doing what we want.

FeegleFrenzy · 25/12/2024 11:56

Yes, just me and dh for the first time ever. Dh has just got back from a run. I’m going to take the dog out for a walk later. Feels very non Xmas, have t even bothered opening the presents yet. We are having lunch shortly.

CraftyNavySeal · 25/12/2024 11:56

Slow morning with a bit of cleaning and dinner prep, now going to pick up BIL and bring him here. We’ll have spritzes, nibbles and open presents before started on the day long cooking and eating. Have bought the cat some posh cat food as well.

Downloaded some more co op games for the PS5 for playing later.

andjustlikethat1 · 25/12/2024 12:00

I am in bed drinking tea my boyfriend is watching a film. We get showered soon, and then visit our next door neighbour with a gift then head to my family home for a great day of drinking and eating. Last night was lovely we went to church went to my parents house had a lovely buffet and were home at 10pm. We watched gavin and Stacey 2019 Christmas special in preparation for tonight. I am extremely hungry and can't wait for a day of nice treats. The heat is on my stove is lit and we are just chilling. It's different with no kids I have been watching videos of family kids and face timed everyone all morning. Merry Xmas x

whatisforteamum · 25/12/2024 12:00

I know how you feel OP.
We had one like that it's a bit strange when the DC leave home.
I worked up until yesterday so enjoyed a rest earlier.
I wasn't going to do dinner or presents as we both work and can buy stuff ourselves.
DH has bought food and I see a couple of bits under the tree.
I will walk to DMS later with her present then we will eat.

Inextremis · 25/12/2024 12:05

Just DH, me and the dog :) We got up late, had coffee, opened presents, had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on soda bread for breakfast, and will now be chilling for a couple of hours. Then the (massive) chicken will go in the oven and I'll start the veg prep, and probably open a bottle of wine. There may be evening cheese.

Hendalle · 25/12/2024 12:06

DH and I don’t have kids. Our Christmas Day is usually lovely but I am unwell so have been in bed all morning 😞
we usually start the day with a lovely breakfast (ricotta pancakes with berries!) and a glass of champagne or a cocktail. And watch some Christmas films. We take the dog on a lovely long walk around midday and have our Christmas dinner in the evening.

this year however, I’m hoping to just about manage to get a pared back meal on the table ready to eat about 3.. no turkey this year.

Happy Christmas to all!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 25/12/2024 12:07

Just me. I'm sick and can't spread to vulnerable relatives. The kids and husband have gone off an hour ago. I'm going to watch shit on tv and see I can summon the energy to eat some chocolate.

Badburyrings · 25/12/2024 12:13

We are on our own again this year. This is mainly due to our elderly dog, who is now deaf and blind and won't tolerate a car journey anymore. I also don't want loads of visitors, as most of them would bring dogs, and it is too much for her. She just needs peace and quiet in her bed and a shuffle around the block. We did this last year as well and it was so boring, I started on the fizz too early and it was not a particularly pleasant day. Additionally, I was very hungover on boxing day.

I did not want that to happen again so I have helped at the livery yard where I keep my horse and will go up later and help them with the afternoon shift. It is not very Christmassy but we don't have kids so it is pretty much like any other normal Sunday here really.

ChickenJeffrey · 25/12/2024 12:21

We've been to visit MiL at her care home, home for coffee and cake then we're off for a walk and to feed the ducks and geese.
We had our roast turkey yesterday and have a fridge full of lovely treat food for later.
Bliss, no stress.

Hibernatingtilspring · 25/12/2024 12:37

It's very quiet and low key for us, though that's kind of how I prefer it! Unfortunately DH is a bit ill, nothing serious but he's not as interested in food or drink as usual. I've done a workout, cooking an m&s Christmas dinner for us later which is really just timing it in the oven or microwave. Will be reading a good book and later on will watch a film together. To me it's like a really good Sunday, as no work tomorrow!

garlictwist · 25/12/2024 12:37

We don't have kids. We have got up, had pugs in blankets for breakfast, been for a local walk and now watching shit tv. We are going to my mums for dinner later. No it's not a hugely magical day but it's nice just to hang out together without work etc.

Sesame2011 · 25/12/2024 12:40

We don't have kids yet although I'm 12 weeks pregnant and spent the morning with my head down the toilet. In laws arriving shortly and I think I'll end up in bed most of the day with a killer headache.

AppleDumplings · 25/12/2024 12:42

I went to early communion while DH walked the dogs. Came back and had a nice breakfast and have just got back from visiting our pal in hospital. Dinner is on the go and DH just poured Bucks Fizz and sorting out the film. Watching that in a bit, then another dog walk, then dinner, nice hot shower with new smellies and new jammies and then probably an early night as slept badly last night. Lovely!! 🤗

Lottapianos · 25/12/2024 12:42

No kids here. We've had crumpets for breakfast, been out for a walk, now DP is starting the roast dinner. Cocktail and crisps in an hour or so, dinner, pudding, cheese, telly. Small presents a bit later. We're not Christmas fans and I have found December pretty awful this year, so glad it's finally arrived, and grateful for some time off work

Vicliz24 · 25/12/2024 12:44

Just back from walking the dogs . Dinner is in the oven then presents a snooze in front of the tv . Then cheese pork pie and nibbles . The perfect day.

LetThereBeLove · 25/12/2024 12:47

DP is French so we 'celebrated' on Xmas Eve. Disappointed with his lack of thought gift.
Both DDs and grandchildren are with in-laws families this year. I feel very low indeed. Will make some French toast for lunch and then watch TV. Maybe play the game I got him.

Doggymummar · 25/12/2024 12:48

Just the two of us here. Got up about 9am had coffee, presents at 9.30. Rang round family played a game of guess who. Prepped the veg and wrote out the timings. Mega chicken goes in at 1pm so the afternoon will be cooking. I just had a shower and got dressed as I didn't fancy a pyjama day today. Watching the YouTube fireplace with Christmas music on. It's nice but after having been off work ten days already it feels a bit samey.

wastingtimeonhere · 25/12/2024 12:50

Just DH and I here too, watched a Christmas film this morning, I've walked the dog..dinner in cooking, DH is watching some crappy repeat, once it's finished I'll put another film on.

MyBirthdayMonth · 25/12/2024 12:56

Enjoying the peace and quiet.

SwordToFlamethrower · 25/12/2024 12:57

I have 1/3.

The two from my previous relationship, sided with my abuser. It happens.

It hurts like hell and I hope they'll see the truth one day. They're now 15 and 20. Been 2 years now.

FuckItItsFine · 25/12/2024 13:20

We’ve no kids. I went over to my brother’s early this morning with my parents to give my nieces their gifts and had breakfast with them. Left DH to lie in and then FaceTime his family. Now back home, just me and DH making the Lego Home Alone House, watching Christmas films, eating chocolate and all our favourite foods. Probably go for a walk along the beach after lunch (fillet steak and triple cooked chips).

We’ll head to my parents’ later for board games and drinks.
