It’s just DH and I. Kids are all grown up. What do you do all day? We’re just sat watching sky news and it feels a bit like a normal Sunday. It’s sunny outside and it all feels a bit weird!
interested to hear what other couples with no kids so on Christmas Day

DS8 and ex left here an hour ago to stay with his family for 2 nights. I'm off to see friend a bit later but for now just enjoying some solitude after days of cooking cleaning play-mating DS plus wrapping till 3am and getting up too early!

I know what you mean about it feeling weird though, I haven't felt festive at all this year, not that I ever do, my family are utterly awful, parent's divorced when I was 2, older brother hasn't spoke to me in 4 years since I had a mental breakdown during lockdown and my dads family have hated me since he remarried when I was 14.

NC with the lot of them. It used to upset me deeply but nowall in all the whole thing to passes me by and that suits me just fine.

A lovely neighbour always invites us and a few other friends for Prosecco and mince pies on Christmas morning. We have no children, and our families live a long way off. We’ve just reeled home, having forgotten to say “When” as our neighbour poured the Prosecco …,

She and her DH are excellent neighbours and we always look out for each other. Nice way to start the day. Dinner will be s bit later than planned, as DH and I will be dozing on the sofa ….

Merry Christmas, OP and everyone.

Foostit · 25/12/2024 13:28

First one for us without any of the 4 adult DC so we are having a quiet day. 2 of them are coming over tomorrow though. We will have a late dinner, a few drinks before watching Gavin and Stacey.

Howmanycatsistoomany · 25/12/2024 13:29

It's just me and DH this year, I've got horses so fed and mucked out the barn like any other morning, came in and showered and opened pressies. Facetimed SILs and DHs grandkids. Just lit the fire so my afternoon will be copious mugs of tea and a pile of books in front of a roaring fire. Might go for a walk in a bit. We're having steak for dinner (DH isn't keen on turkey) and I don't care as long as I have my sprouts. Probably a cheesy Christmas movie or two and a🍷tonight.

Tortielady · 25/12/2024 13:29

Just me, DH and two cats. We had scrambled eggs with loads of toast and coffee for breakfast, followed by Lindt truffles and more coffee for elevenses. Lunch will be about 4 - it's never at what people think of as a traditional time. Loads of reading and discussing TV schedules as DH is a big Dr Who fan and we'll both want to see Wallace and Gromit. Wishing everybody a pleasant, peaceful day.

biscuitsandbooks · 25/12/2024 13:30

Neither of us have DC - we both had a lie-in, then sorted the animals and took the dog to a beach for a good run about with his new ball.

Food is currently in the oven - we're having chicken with all the trimmings, and now sat watching re-runs of Vicar of Dibley while it cooks and the dog snores. We saw FIL on Monday and we're seeing my parents later in the week, so no obligations whatsoever for a couple of days, which is bliss.

After dinner we have an afternoon of Baileys, cheese, chocolate and Christmas TV planned. The dog won't need to go out again so just a nice lazy afternoon ahead.

LoudPlumDog · 25/12/2024 13:31

Well my 21 year old daughter passed away suddenly 7 weeks ago, our 23 year old daughter went down south with her boyfriend (I insisted she go) so just DH and I.

Up early and took the dogs for a big run and swim. Dropped them back home and went to the cemetery with some flowers for DD. Lots of people there.
Home for a cooked breakfast and a nap. Went out for an hour to visit a friend.
Home for another nap ( grief is truly exhausting) DH took dogs for another run while I cleaned up a bit. Then quick dinner, hot bath and bed.

NicolaCasanova · 25/12/2024 13:41

DH is still asleep (2.30pm) so we missed Mass earlier.

I made double portions of roasted carrots and potatoes yesterday and have added some mushrooms for a bit of a change today, they are covered ready to go in the oven with a large chicken breast marinated in lemon and rosemary when DH is up and hungry. I’ve just had Cheddar and crackers with a couple of olives for lunch as I couldn’t hold on. The TV seems to have stopped working so I am listening to some Christmas music on the computer and answering any WhatsApps that come through. Waiting for family abroad to confirm what time they want to Zoom.

We haven’t got a tree this year (no money). I printed off 10 Christmas jokes at work on red paper and have been giving DH a few at a time since yesterday. We will play Trivial Pursuit or Uno or both after our meal and I think I’ll try to find a festive quiz online for fun too.

I might try to pop out for a little walk now too (it is very cold and typically I don’t go out alone as am recovering from surgery but I think 15 minutes of fresh air could be nice.)

I wish I had splurged and got some Quality Street as I would be gladly gobbling a hazel in caramel right now!

Yellowpingu · 25/12/2024 14:12

Presents, bacon butties for breakfast, FaceTime with grown up DC, dog walk, meal prep and about to have a nap while meat is cooking.

BobbyBiscuits · 25/12/2024 14:14

I don't have kids. We just chill the fuck out all day. Gonna put the dinner on at about 4.30pm. got a small turkey crown thing that only takes two hours. Having a drink now. I do have a cold sadly which is a pain, as I didn't sleep well. But I'll make the best of it.
Happy Christmas! X

HeyPrestoVinegar · 25/12/2024 14:19

Blissfully childfree and doing nothing-which is my favourite thing to do! Looking at presents I got, stuffing my face, listening to an audiobook, scrolling the internet.

Jewell25 · 25/12/2024 14:22

We had a lie in, then a breakfast of Buck’s Fizz & croissants. Opened the presents and then went out for a long walk by the sea. It was lovely. Back for coffee & panettone. DH now prepping Christmas dinner, while I’m watching Swan Lake. After dinner, we’ll watch a film with chocolates & a cheese board.

Lottapianos · 25/12/2024 14:33

'Blissfully childfree and doing nothing-which is my favourite thing to do!'

You just cannot put a price on the freedom to do nothing 👍 especially when you think how many people today would happily sell a kidney for just 1 minute of peace and quiet and freedom!

Cheers to everyone who is having a quiet, genuinely enjoyable day ❤️

Purplecatshopaholic · 25/12/2024 14:35

Having a lovely peaceful time. Speaking to my family later, and seeing his at the weekend, so it’s just us today. Walked dogs, cheesecake for breakfast, Xmas movie (Batman Returns), dinner on for later. Muppets Christmas Carol later too.

Badburyrings · 25/12/2024 12:13

We are on our own again this year. This is mainly due to our elderly dog, who is now deaf and blind and won't tolerate a car journey anymore. I also don't want loads of visitors, as most of them would bring dogs, and it is too much for her. She just needs peace and quiet in her bed and a shuffle around the block. We did this last year as well and it was so boring, I started on the fizz too early and it was not a particularly pleasant day. Additionally, I was very hungover on boxing day.

I did not want that to happen again so I have helped at the livery yard where I keep my horse and will go up later and help them with the afternoon shift. It is not very Christmassy but we don't have kids so it is pretty much like any other normal Sunday here really.

I'm so glad we're not the only people who restrict themselves due to having an elderly dog! I went out for a couple of drinks with DH last night - so left her alone for all of 2 hours. I felt so guilty - but she was fine, and she'll enjoy her share of the chicken later :)

garlictwist · 25/12/2024 12:37

We don't have kids. We have got up, had pugs in blankets for breakfast, been for a local walk and now watching shit tv. We are going to my mums for dinner later. No it's not a hugely magical day but it's nice just to hang out together without work etc.

Oh dear, pugs in blankets?
What an ample breakfast!
😆

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 25/12/2024 14:46

Ha ha @Nothatgingerpirate
I was wondering about the pugs in blankets too !

We are just me and DH for the day time . A bit of a cheat as DS and his partner will come round in the evening.

We've done presents and had our lunch. Had a lovely surprise main present I wasn't expecting as DH had already bought some expensive concert tickets I wanted for next year and that was meant to be the main present.

Just chilling now and will pop the dog out again before it gets dark.

I think that if we were going to be by ourselves completely all day we'd probably go away somewhere to make it more of a special day. We're both retired so the day off at home is our norm.

Kitkat1523 · 25/12/2024 14:48

Kids all grown and flown
DD and 2 GD will be round about 4pm but up to then just chilling the 2 of us…..Xmas tunes on Alexa…..,log burner lit……DP has made Xmas dinner , going in eat in about 15 mins…..phoned my mum earlier, will see her at new year….phoned both my sons…..will watch to when DD leaves ….. it’s just a day really🤷‍♀️

Jazzabel · 25/12/2024 14:50

It’s just me this year. Dd1 is with her boyfriend’s family and dd2 is at my parents with some other relatives. I’ve got that nasty flu thing that’s going around and whilst I’m coming out the other side of it, a lot of this year has been so tiring and draining that I don’t have the mental or physical energy to put on a happy face and join everyone today. I’m sure they don’t want my germs anyway. Will catch up with everyone over the next week when I feel better. Currently watching the grinch under a blanket and feeling an affinity towards him.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 25/12/2024 14:52

I'm so sorry about your daughter @LoudPlumDog Flowers

JC03745 · 25/12/2024 14:52

We TTC 12 yrs, lost 3 and have no living children. DH presented me with a bucks fizz when I came downstairs today. We have a single friend coming around for lunch and staying tonight. Might take the dog for a walk later and watch TV, but otherwise no specific plans.

Lottapianos · 25/12/2024 14:57

'We TTC 12 yrs, lost 3 and have no living children'

I am so deeply sorry. I wish you nothing but peace for the coming year ❤️

dreamer24 · 25/12/2024 15:16

@LoudPlumDog
So sorry for your loss 😞Flowers

Cynic17 · 25/12/2024 15:21

Never had kids, always just the two of us. Just relax, read books, listen to the radio, bottle of champagne, snacks for lunch, bit of a sleep. Husband did go on a bike ride first thing.
Just a quiet day, no big deal.
The best Christmases have been spent away in a European city - in Vienna, Venice and Amsterdam you can go to an art gallery on 25th, which is absolutely the best way to spend the day.

Broadband · 25/12/2024 15:21

Taken the dog for a lovely long walk (great weather here), home for breakfast and chill out watching a soppy film on Netflix. Opened a few presents and saved a few for later, now cooking dinner with a G&T and we will open remaining gifts afterwards. Very chilled and nice.
