Anyone tried the Philips lumea?

Hi!

just wondered if anyone has the Philips lumea lpl device and could advice if it’s worth it or not? It’s on sale right now for £300 and I’m very tempted to buy it but just not sure if it’s worth it or if the results are not as good as it makes out. I unfortunately have very dark, course, dense facial and body hair and am fed up having to shave so often to keep on top of it. Considered laser treatment but it’s so expensive whereas I figured I could use the Philips lumea on my entire body and it would work out cheaper but just not sure if it’s really worth it or not?

TIA!

Yes game changer for me. The darker hair and lighter the skin is best.

moustache has never grown back. Thick dark leg hair gone.

goid luck!

Sinkintotheswamp · 14/12/2024 18:54

Yes, bought it in the pandemic. Boots triple points weekend too.

I had very very thick leg hair that hadn't weakened after 30yrs of waxing. It took about a year to laser the hair and it did get very angry, itchy and spotty the first couple of treatments. I probably had it up too high and for too long (not much else to do in covid).

I just roughly zap them every other week now. Occasionally get the odd feeble hair. It is very weird having constantly smooth legs, waxing only ever lasted a week.

It hasn't worked that well for me unfortunately. I have same hair type to you, and olive skin. I wonder whether it's my skin tone that means it's not that effective. I also have a lot of moles and you need to be careful not to go over them.

TTPDTS · 14/12/2024 19:00

I absolutely love mine!

But I have very dark hair and very fair skin so it's going to work well on me - different skin tones get really different results I've seen in the reviews.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 14/12/2024 19:01

Yes. Love it and well worth the money.

I've got dark blonde hair and it works very well for me.

LittleMosIron · 14/12/2024 19:01

Not a lumea, but I have a ulike and it's life changing. I haven't used it in 6 months out of laziness but I still have less hair than before. Olive skin and dark curly hair here.

Mostunexpected · 14/12/2024 19:02

Hasn’t really worked for me at all. I have the palest skin and very dark hair so it should work well but it hasn’t

MadameMaxGoesler · 14/12/2024 19:06

Yes! Pale skin and dark hair. Years of itchy shaving.
Bought the Lumea several years ago and now have completely hair-free legs. Incipient moustache is completely gone. Bikini line and armpits need a bit more work, but I've been lazy.
It's blissful not to have leg stubble.

SometimesCalmPerson · 14/12/2024 19:07

I have light skin with dark hair and it was amazing. I hardly ever use it now. I have about 4 hairs under each armpit that will still come out after a few weeks but everything else is sorted.

Don’t use it on your top lip though. It will cause damage and contribute to aging.

mrsfollowill · 14/12/2024 19:10

If you have pale skin and dark hair go for it- please buy it! Totally amazing for me - had one for 5 yrs - follow the instructions. I had facial hair (Tom Selleck tache if I left it to its own devices!) It took quite a long time to be really effective - prob 6/7 months of being religious with it but now only need maintenance top ups maybe 3 times a year. I also paid £300 in 1st lockdown and it's totally paid for itself. I have movie star hair free pits as well - shave underarms maybe x 2 a year - just a few wisps when I do as well Grin

Northernlightx · 14/12/2024 19:13

Entirely changed my life - and not an understatement. I grew up with big issues around unwanted dark hair and very pale skin. I now feel ‘in control’ of my body hair. My legs and armpits are now a dream.

hesitsupallday · 14/12/2024 19:17

Dark hair and fair skin. About 10 years or so ago I bought one and did underarm and bikini line. Nothing ever came back after the treatment. I'm a happy bunny

DoorOpening · 14/12/2024 19:19

You have to be patient - it doesn’t work overnight - takes many weeks. But damn it’s good. No more red bumpy arm pits from shaving. I have mid brown hair and pale but not totally alabaster skin.
worth the money.

This is me too. Bloody love my Lumea, worth every penny.

calmandcollected101 · 14/12/2024 19:24

Yes worked for me

I have Asian Indian skin and black hair

Really worked for my legs, underarms and I find it helps with keeping my skin clear..strangely
No dark shadows/ pigmentation

Yes. It's such a relief knowing my daughter will be able to zap her legs and not waste a fortune and constant years of discomfort waxing or shaving.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 14/12/2024 19:28

Put a 12-week reminder to charge it/give your skin a few zaps. Otherwise the battery will die which is a shame for such an expensive item.

I don't use it so often anymore so I really have to remind myself to take it out and keep the battery working.

EmotionalSupportBiscuit · 14/12/2024 19:29

Love mine. I have the ideal combination of dark hair and pale skin. I use it on legs, underarms and bikini (very high bikini!). I once had a random hives reaction on one shin but it’s been well worth it for me.

Squidgemoon · 14/12/2024 19:33

I’m also thinking about one. Pale skin although not all my body hair is dark. Can you use it down below? As in not just bikini line but everywhere? I’d really love to get rid out of my pubic hair but have very sensitive skin and shaving/waxing doesnt work for me at all.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 14/12/2024 19:38

TMI I guess but yes, I've used it for everything.

Cornflakes44 · 14/12/2024 19:39

I'm really interested in this but for more blond peach fuzz on the face. Has anyone found it works for that? I'm fairly pale, freckly skin type if that makes a difference.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 14/12/2024 19:39

Just be aware that if your skin is very sensitive it may not like the Lumea either.

It hasn't worked for my peach fuzz - it's blonde and that doesn't work with IPL

I was avoiding TMI but sod it I’ve had wine yes I take everything off with it, just leave a landing strip 😎

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 14/12/2024 19:48

It won't work where there isn't a good contrast between skin and hair.

So if your unwanted hair is dark, best to zap it before it gets grey/white!

Reminds me, I need to do a maintenance run.
