To ask if anyone wants to talk about "the drones" ?

Distracting myself from my rather hideous real life, I've been poking around YouTube and am quite interested in all the apparent drone sightings mainly in the US but also apparently over here to a lesser to degree.

Obviously some of the pictures and alleged video footage are misidentified aircraft, but NJ in the US are having quite the conniption over some of what they're seeing.

I'm an open minded sceptic, but the amount if traction this is getting is intriguing.

Theories are that it's military testing of new tech, or even civilian testing, but official statements imply that TPTB don't actually know what's going on. I find that weird, given all the sophisticated tech we have for surveillance and tracking, especially given how busy airspace is in general.

Anyway just wondered if anybody else was curious about it all - or have you seen anything weird? I haven't - I'm under the flight path of our local airport and we seem to be "drone free" lol. Always wondered about "aliens" but not obsessed or anything.

Given the current state of the world, maybe I should add alien invasion to my "you couldn't make this shit up" bingo card - I have about three spots left to call "house" after some of the stuff I've been dealing with.

Anyway, have at it :

YABU - you're a tinfoil hat wearing nutter and should get out more.

YANBU - there are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio......

It's probably a combination of Russia (and maybe China) playing silly buggers and mass hysteria.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 14/12/2024 17:52

That wouldn't surprise me.

I haven’t fallen down this YouTube rabbit hole, but considering pretty much anyone can buy a drone and fly it what makes these particular drone signings considered odd? I’ve never seen many about, but I could buy one tomorrow and fly it about if I wanted to, where are they being spotted that is making people suspicious?

Pleasegivemeyourwisdom · 14/12/2024 17:54

I do! I’m perplexed!

Apparently it's the numbers of them that's causing concern, also size in some cases - one quote talked about the size of an SUV. Many reports regarding them hanging out around military and nuclear facilities. The US authorities are commenting in a very neutral way about it, but they are doing briefings etc.

If it is foreign military activity obviously that's a security concern, but surely that could be expressed matter of factly and identified.

We're not talking a few nutters claiming ET - it's being discussed at a federal level.

I am fascinated by it all. Whether it’s aliens, Russia or in-house military training, it’s intriguing and I want to know more.

Mind blowing lol

MistressoftheDarkSide · 14/12/2024 18:07

There's a channel called News Nation on YouTube covering it extensively. I'm currently watching a hearing of some sort described as "Lawmakers talk mysterious drone sightings on East Coast".

There seems to be a lot of crazy going on last few years. I do wonder what's next!

wastingtimeonhere · 14/12/2024 18:08

Apparently one landed at Manchester Airport on the runway.
I said 'drone or AI created pic📸' and got 'aliens' from my CT colleague..

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 14/12/2024 18:10

Yes please. No one over here seems to know and it's only briefly
Covered in the bbc on US and Canada section.

What ever it is it's
Not good.

  1. US devices prepped for war testing.
  2. China or other country
  3. Something Extraterrestrial
  4. Massive hoax

All the first 3 are scary prospects

MistressoftheDarkSide · 14/12/2024 18:10

It is a huge problem that it's difficult to tell what's real and what's not on the Internet these days.

This really feels like "someone" is up to "something".

Elon? What are you up to now ? 😁

It’s very interesting, if your interested look up ‘scareships’ it was a spate of strange Zeppelins in the Edwardian period, some apparently with technology far advanced for the time. It’s an interesting tale of mass hysteria, storytelling or maybe something far more, just love it, kind of similar.

Probably test flights of some description.
The X-59 can't be the only thing undergoing testing at the moment.

outerspacepotato · 14/12/2024 18:20

As a USian, I'm shocked nobody's been shooting at them.

NYC or Philly or DC, those things are toast.

squirrelnutcartel · 14/12/2024 18:20

Probably domestic military projects being tested. I fail to see how it can be the Russians or Chinese. Where would they be launched and controlled from?

AdventFridgeOfShame · 14/12/2024 18:24

If drones are such an issue presumably there is a secret project to take them down efficiently. Maybe code named Retiarius.

LaurieFairyCake · 14/12/2024 18:27

They're that close to US military stuff surely they're clearly US drones?

Has there been a denial of that ? And not just mad ramblings by Trumpton Hmm

We saw a massive drone designed for crop spraying this year at an agricultural industry event. It was small car sized and could carry a few hundred litres of liquid. It’s quite scary how quick tech can be turned to misuse.

There's been a thread going on for a while

I think most of us are in the "US govt but they don't want to say" bracket. But we've also recognised the suggestibility/mass hysteria aspect. I'm not watching any mainstream media stuff as per usual but I have seen politicians talking about it.
