Have you ever bought something because of a FB ad?

I see adverts on Facebook often for stuff I think I might like but assume it’s probably naff because it’s not a brand I’ve heard of and it’s being advertised on Facebook. Recent ones I’ve seen are Foldie bags, Peeps glasses cleaners and Lumilight headbands. So, has anyone ever bought based on one of this ads and was it decent or rubbish?

I also bought a handheld microscope for him and it was crap.

so 50/50

I sometimes respond to FB ads but generally only if I’ve heard of the brand.

IknowIputitsomewhere · 07/12/2024 09:04

A lot of people buy my books based on my Facebook ads. It's my single best way of reaching people and definitely profitable.

RaspberryBeretxx · 07/12/2024 09:05

I’ve bought loads 🙈.

A Dyson hairdryer dupe (seems good so far)

Glorbs - sticky glow in the dark balls that kids can chuck at the ceiling (stocking filler - not yet arrived)

Wild mint skincare set - lovely, really loved it but can’t justify spending out all the time. Sone of the products lasted for ages though but the serum which was my favourite ran out fastest (prob me using too much!)

cat toy fish - fun cat Christmas present

square led little torches - amazing, very bright, DP and DS use them loads

bodyshaper suit thing - not great, just makes me feel squished in without actually making me much smaller/smoother.

im sure there’s more, im clearly a marketers dream. Currently tempted by some t shirts that are following me around. Off to google lumielight headband!

FlamingoYellow · 07/12/2024 09:07

I always think things look great on fb ads, then I Google the product and the reviews are usually terrible.

Pomegranatecarnage · 07/12/2024 09:07

I have! I found my favourite skincare products on FB. I always google stuff for genuine reviews.

Throwawayusername2024 · 07/12/2024 09:07

I might be inspired to go look at a website but I don't click the links, don't want meta to take sellers money with their affiliate links. I generally get fairly good marketing which is at least somewhat relevant (i.e nappies etc) so it's not too bad.

Washywishy · 07/12/2024 09:08

Yes, mould remover, it was great!

StormingNorman · 07/12/2024 09:09

No. I have bought something because of an Instagram ad though.

claratheskivvy · 07/12/2024 09:11

I bought 2mls of Oud perfume for £11 and it's horrible, but I didn't waste much money on it at least.

AffIt · 07/12/2024 09:15

Yes.

I am mildly obsessed with a company called 'Must Have Ideas' who sell (actually really good) household gadgets.

I think I may have also come across Laura Mercier's baked foundation via FB?

I've been considering one of those Lumilight things for taking the bins out - if anybody has one, please review!

Oh yes, me too with the Laura mercier foundation and also il makiage foundation. To be fair I really liked both but haven’t spent out on il makiage again. Laura mercier is still going, a touch dark in shade though but very handy for a super quick brush over.

They always look brilliant don't they.

I have bought some Ninepine Relaxed Asana straight pants, and they are brilliant. I then got a discount code from them and bought another pair.

They were expensive but really worth the money. The bonus being that they are actually long enough for me as well as being supremely comfortable.

ExtraOnions · 07/12/2024 09:21

Yep … only yesterday I ordered the “Guinness Book of Records, Gamers Edition” for Gamer DD (but I’ll love it as well)

Yoonimum · 07/12/2024 09:24

Must Have Ideas are fine; great customer service. I bought some belts which took ages to arrive from China but have lasted really well. Feeling reasonably confident based on this I ordered Vera Underwear and it never arrived; the customer service email does not exist. On checking Trustpilot I see this is a scam and many people have received nothing or a load of rubbish that bears no resemblance to the ads. Lesson learned - do your research first!

FelixtheAardvark · 07/12/2024 09:40

Never. And that goes double for anything advertised on YouTube.

NalafromtheLionKing · 07/12/2024 09:43

Almost never, but I saw one for Turn Me Royal yesterday and it made me laugh so I ended up ordering from them (only after googling the company and checking Trustpilot reviews to check it was legit though).

Meadowfinch · 07/12/2024 09:46

Yes, just bought my Xmas tree from someone on the village FB page.

Meadowfinch · 07/12/2024 09:48

Facebook is a professional advertising medium. We are a £40m co and advertise on Facebook. If it reaches the right audience, we'll use it.

I was about to say Must Have Ideas. We had to return an item and the customer service was fast and superb. The products are always good, I love our little scraper and a contraption that magically breaks the vacuum on impossible-to-open, vacuum sealed jars. I use it as my party piece!

I buy shoes on fb which are the only ones which give me arch support and can accommodate my very problem feet, and which I can't find anywhere else

What brand are they please @Abracadabra12345 ?

GrandHighPoohbah · 07/12/2024 21:33

Absolutely. In fact tailored ads for products, and more importantly, events, I might be interested in is one of the main reasons I use FB. I have found out about lots of small events this way and bought tickets, as well as been introduced to brands I now like.

DuesToTheDirt · 07/12/2024 21:35

I bought a dress that kept appearing on my FB feed, from a company I'd never heard of before. It's lovely and I wore it to DD's graduation.

mambojambodothetango · 07/12/2024 21:55

Yes, a few times, with varying results. Seaweed shampoo, LED rechargeable lights, swimsuits, bras... it's annoying when the company turns out to be from USA and delivery/customs is high.

rosiethegremlin · 07/12/2024 22:00

I have Pro Blow rollers. They are excellent. They took ages to arrive though so for a while I thought it might have been a scam
