to think it's a bit weird that Bryan McFadden is fighting so that his MOTHER can have custody of this own children?

Not a Kerry Katona rant, this one, but I read something today about how Bryan McFadden is fighting her for custody. Apparently he wants his mother to have custody of his girls, and not KK.

I know this could well be made-up tabloidy bollocks, but if it's true, am I the only one who thinks it's weird? I mean, fight for custody by all means but doesn't he want to live with them himself?

is he not too busy in oz with delta?!

expatinscotland · 29/04/2008 21:41

No, I don't think it's weird, if the mother is as unstable as KK and who admits to using drugs and not looking after herself.

LucyJones · 29/04/2008 21:42

yes I heard that too, thought it sounded a bit odd
only thing I can think of is that the courts won't let them go to him because he lives too far away (ie abroad?)
what does he do anyway though? Apart from go out with Delta thingy
He doesn't seemto have a job so why doesn't he just move back to be closer to his kids

emkana · 29/04/2008 21:43

I don't think it's weird if it ensures a stable and secure and happy upbringing for the children.

posieflump · 29/04/2008 21:43

I think it's shite he puts his relationship above that of his kids

FreddysTeddy · 29/04/2008 21:43

So you don't think it's weird he doesn't want to live with them?

OP posts:
Earlybird · 29/04/2008 21:43

I imagine that he is unable to commit to having them full time as he travels alot for work (touring, telly appearances, interviews, etc).

Does his Mum live in the UK? Maybe he doesn't want to uproot the girls and take them to the other side of the world where they'll hardly ever see their Mum....

FreddysTeddy · 29/04/2008 21:44

Apparently his Mum lives in Ireland.

Can't see why he'd want to live in Australia when his kids live in the UK either, tbh.

dizzydixies · 29/04/2008 21:45

lucy apparently they're recording new stuff?!

his mum is in eire I think

LucyJones · 29/04/2008 21:45

'I imagine that he is unable to commit to having them full time as he travels alot for work (touring, telly appearances, interviews, etc).'

if that was a mother's reasoning she'd be lambasted for sure!

FreddysTeddy · 29/04/2008 21:46

No recording studios in the UK then?

The only thing I thought is that perhaps he thinks his Mum has more chance of getting them than he does, but even so, I don't get why he chooses to live so far away from them.

Earlybird · 29/04/2008 21:48

Well, being an artist and all that comes with it (extensive travel) is how he earns his living.

Maybe he just wants them somewhere safe, and knows his professional life is incompatible with being a single parent - hence his Mother being willing to be primary carer.

FreddysTeddy · 29/04/2008 21:49

How would he be a single parent? He's engaged to that Delta bird and they've been together for years.

FairyMum · 29/04/2008 21:51

I think its weird to move so far away from your children full stop. Could not see myself living in Australia whilst my children were looked after by Kerry Katona on the other side of the world.

Earlybird · 29/04/2008 21:51

Freddy and Lucy - recording is only a part of what he does (I imagine).

No idea if he/his band have a significant International following, but if so, artists are expected to travel extensively to do interviews/telly appearances/performances to France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Australia, Scandinavia, etc. They are away from home a great deal if they have a buying public outside their home country.

nametaken · 29/04/2008 21:51

I think he's already tried for custody but maybe the fact that he travels extensively was considered not to be in the best interests of the children so in this case, I guess the next best thing would be his mother.

I thought that KK's mother was a drug addict too so they can't go to her so that only really leaves McFaddens mother.

FreddysTeddy · 29/04/2008 21:52

I agree FairyMum.

ash6605 · 29/04/2008 21:52

I find Bryan a hypocrite tbh. This man buggered off to Australia to put his relationship first then has the nerve to call KK an unfit mother and fight her for custody. WTF?

posieflump · 29/04/2008 21:52

I think he stays in Oz because over there she is the more famous of the 2 and they get loads of adoring fans

whereas here the press would slate him for being the fat one out of Westlife who hasn't got very far since leaving

LittleBella · 29/04/2008 21:52

No it's not at all wierd for a man to want to take his children away from his ex-wife but not actually want the hard work and responsibility of looking after them himself. It's par for the course.

I know nothing about these 2 hello-fodder characters btw, just responding to the OP.

FreddysTeddy · 29/04/2008 21:53

Nametaken, that's a good point - if he's already tried for custody then that would explain it.

I still think it's really sad he lives so far away from them though.

OP posts:
LittleBella · 29/04/2008 21:53

Are they all drug addicts then?

(Who is Kerry Katona btw? Is she the woman in the Iceland ad? Why is she actually famous?)

posieflump · 29/04/2008 21:53

Earlybird - you make it sound like it isn't his choice to do all of those things
he could just choose to be there for his kids instead of being halfway across the world from them

madamez · 29/04/2008 21:53

Well, it does make practical sense, and it is not unreasonable for him to want the children to live with a person who is psychologically stable and not using drugs (ALLEGEDLY, lawyers. I neither know nor care exactly what Kerry Katona gets up to and am making no claims.)
However, men are still allowed to get away with not immediately giving up their entire lives to look after their children: if the genders were reveresed in this situation everyone would be saying, oh she's got enough money to live on, she's not that talented anyway, how dare the unnatural bitch not immediately stop doing everything she's been doing and come and make a home for the children...

posieflump · 29/04/2008 21:54

littebella - she was once in Atomic Kitten (pop group), she also won I'm a Celbrity which reignited her fame, apparently!
