Aibu to think this phrase has vanished in recent years? I can't tell how long... maybe 20+

I'm sure I used to hear people say it, I heard it recently and it just sounded so odd.

Not very bubbly and not accurate...

Katyfour · 04/12/2024 18:01

When I grew up in the 80s, it was an everyday phrase. But we had no shower. Showers are probably responsible for the loss of the phrase.

My toddler loves having a 'babbaff'

Oh, you've brought back a lovely memory. As a child I used to have a bubbly soak in the avocado coloured bath with a spider plant in a homemade macramé hanging basket dangling above me.
The cat used to sit on the corner of the tub and bat the bubbles with her paw until one day she fell in and deep flesh wounds ensued in the panic.

Of course, sometimes back in the 80's the whole family gathered together in three or four seperate tubs for bubble baths, in our own private indoor water park to drink champagne and ask Simon to book Tahiti via Concorde.

I have a bubble bath most nights - I usually use Matey bubbles as they are the most bubbly (you know, in a pirate bottle for children?) and don't leave the bath all slimy like bath oils do.

15y old DS insists on Matey bubble bath too as he says the same re best bubbles. It’s on offer in Superdrug at the moment if you need topping up 😁

teatoast8 · 04/12/2024 18:44

I put my kids in a bubble bath (a bath full of bubbles), made with bubble bath (the stuff in a bottle) regularly.

Ditto!

KimberleyClark · 04/12/2024 19:32

I remember bubble baths being advertised in Jackie magazine. Three Wishes, Birds Foam Featherbath.

I don't mean as in the bottle of soap itself, I mean like having a bubble bath. Nobody says they're having or had a bubble bath anymore

I've never said "I've had / am going to have a bubble bath".

I'd say "I'm off for a bath" or "I've just got out the bath". The fact it has bubbles in it is just the default assumption about my bath. Like the fact the water is hot.

So there isn't any "anymore" about it, as it never was, for me.

But when the bottle is running low, I'd write 'bubble bath' on the shopping list.
