To think that it is ludicrous that what is a woman has to be argued in the Supreme Court.

But here we are. Good luck to For Women Scotland and the other women’s groups that have contributed to the submissions . The barristers for the Scottish Government have not made any kind of sensible case in asserting that men claiming womanhood should be treated as such. Case finishes this afternoon.

It's crazy isn't it. I don't see the need. There have always been those who liked to present as the opposite sex, they just lived their lives, we lived ours. I don't see the need for all these politics over it. They were able to use the bathrooms of their birth sex before, they can do so again. It's all a load of proverbials.

Ramblingnamechanger · 27/11/2024 14:13

I disagree. Male presence in female facilities is never good for women’s privacy dignity and safety. Just because they say they feel something like a woman does not make them our sex class. There is no reason why they should presume on our good nature, or get the law changed to override our sex based rights. Because some women say they don’t mind, it should not be that other women’s need are overruled.

It’s insane. A court case over the definition of something which has been biological fact since the dawn of time.

Good luck to FWS

Oh I do agree with this! Women's spaces are worth preserving. But I think the idea that men can be women is ludicrous.

Wendolino · 27/11/2024 14:30

YANBU, it's absolutely ridiculous

Finnulafishface · 27/11/2024 14:32

I still can’t believe that we have come to this. When you write it like that, it really shows the insanity of this argument.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 27/11/2024 15:09

It said on the news earlier that the barristers fighting the case and the judges hearing it are all male. Men are getting to decide amongst themselves what women are. FFS.

ilovesooty · 27/11/2024 15:11

Isn't there a thread on this in AIBU already?

Pussycat22 · 27/11/2024 15:14

A penis is a penis and a womb is a womb. End of!!!

TeaMistress · 27/11/2024 15:30

The entire thing is utterly dystopian. Men cannot become women. Women cannot become men. Changing sex is impossible. Your biological sex remains the same irrespective of having body parts removed /altered. Men dressing as women are still men and therefore should not be in women's spaces or sports and to have this matter be heard by a group of male judges in the Supreme Court is transgressive and misogynist. Men have no say in what a woman is.

Annabella92 · 27/11/2024 15:35

Yes it's beyond absurd and the fact this errant nonsense has been entertained and facilitated by people whose job it was is precisely to stop things like this from happening has led me to question and overturn every prior I had until now. It's so deeply destabilising to behold what has happened here and is continuing to happen. This is about far more than women.

OrchestralRemoversInTheDark · 27/11/2024 15:48

Good luck to FWS. When a judge asks if make up is a physiological characteristic of women you know something has gone terribly wrong.

Naunet · 27/11/2024 15:49

It really is a sickening level of pure misogyny.

Abitofalark · 27/11/2024 16:21

There was a thread on this yesterday. Where has it gone? A search didn't bring it up.

RedToothBrush · 27/11/2024 16:33

Why are we arguing about the legal definition of what a woman is...

...but not a man?

You need not go further than this point.

tedgran · 27/11/2024 16:38

My understanding is that the original law was badly drawn, and although I fervently hope that FWS win, the judges can only rule on the law as it stands.

My thought exactly. Why is it women that need to justify themselves?

EasternStandard · 27/11/2024 17:11

I wasn't aware of this case

Good luck to FWS

Two female Counsel representing Scottish Government

Two female judges on the bench

At least, that's what they looked like. But, you can't judge by appearances and not allowed to ask, so, who knows?!

YANBU - it's an absolute disgrace.

Adult Human Female, Supreme Court!😡

Good to know. It was either yesterday's Politics Live or llast nights Newsnight that said they were all male. I can't remember which.

Ramblingnamechanger · 28/11/2024 12:31

Apologies to mn…I thought the thread had been deleted, but I just couldn’t find it! In any case I see there is another one!

Abitofalark · 28/11/2024 13:09

Yes, there was a thread here in AIBU which someone tried to derail with a series of posts berating women which were deleted. But I suppose the damage had been done and the thread mustn't have recovered after that.
