3 bottles of wine ( 30)
1/4l gin (10)
1/3l whiskey (13)
3 cans of beer (7)
Total = 60 units

Adult male, <40 years, runner, 220lbs.

Thoughts?

(Brackets and totals based on a very quick Google search. May not be 100% accurate)

In a day or a month or a year?

Nameychangington · 17/11/2024 17:08

An hour? A year? What are you asking?

roastiepotato · 17/11/2024 17:09

Quite a lot for one night

holjam · 17/11/2024 17:10

What's the question?

lonelyweather · 17/11/2024 17:11

Guessing this is a week? The people I know who drank that much under 40 are either alcoholics or teetotal now

GiraffeTree · 17/11/2024 17:12

Too much (assuming it's per week).

Is that daily? Alcoholic definitely.

coffeesaveslives · 17/11/2024 17:36

What are you asking? Confused

Lindjam · 17/11/2024 17:36

Over what period?

@Decisionsarehard That's not a question,
You need to give more details eg
Time frame
Cos nobody knows if you mean weekly/monthly
Are you concerned for the person drinking that amount ? Are you the one drinking?!

olderbutwiser · 17/11/2024 17:49

Alcohol just about within NHS recommendations for a month.
Weight just about OK if he's over 6' tall.

Decisionsarehard · 17/11/2024 18:23

Should have included over a 10 day period.

Having recounted, it was 12 beers and 4 bottles of wine.

OP posts:
mrspresents · 17/11/2024 18:25

That's a hell of a lot. I would say alcoholic

Wishfives · 17/11/2024 18:29

Over ten days? Like on holiday or every ten days? It's a lot in my opinion esp if a regular thing. If holiday still a lot but some people do drink more on holiday than they would at home .

ChocolateTelephone · 17/11/2024 18:31

Too much for ten days imo. Is this you or someone you know? Hope you’re ok x

Hannahandlucy · 17/11/2024 18:33

Is this usual for 10 days or are you on holidays or anything? Either way it's a lot

JaneJeffer · 17/11/2024 18:35

Depends on the circumstances

Didimum · 17/11/2024 18:41

I have absolutely no idea why people continually ask this question on this forum (and presumably others).

Can you not Google? Or are you hoping it’s somehow OK because it’s ’socially acceptable’ and therefore you don’t have to face confronting your partner (I’m assuming this is your partner) over being an alcoholic?

The recommended limit is 14 units a week. This is a consumption of over 42 per week. So yes three times the weekly recommended consumption on the regular means you’ve got one heck of a problem with alcohol.

It’s not a moral judgment, it’s a clinical recommendation based on increase of risk. It is what it is.

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 17/11/2024 18:47

I'd say if he's not abusive with it, not drunk and not over the limit to drive then leave him alone.

Lindjam · 17/11/2024 19:23

Well given your update, yes this person is drinking excessively.

Can they afford it? Does it affect their behaviour?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 17/11/2024 19:25

As a regular occurrence, every ten day period, that’s an amount I would be massively concerned about.

As a one off like over the festive period when you’re having lots of parties/gatherings, I would say that’s a lot but each to their own. DH’s family drink a lot more than mine and would get through that over the Christmas period.

If it was my DH sat at home drinking for 10 days (I’m teetotal), I’d be telling him he had a problem.

Depends was it on a holiday? How old they are and how they handle drink (ie are they ‘happy drunk’ or angry etc. if regular it’s a bit scary
