Films, women, good vibes

Evening, good fine women of mumsnet.

Currently enjoying Queenpins on Netflix, which, whilst will likely not win awards, is ticking the box for a film which celebrates /champions women in a lighthearted manner. Any other recommendations? Doesn't necessarily have to be lighthearted, but certainly uplifting (in the end).

AIBU for the traffic...

Bump bump bump, definitely not drinking wine and fancying a little chat/sharing of inspirational films or tv series...

Hidden figures

Posted to soon, inspirational film!

& The help

Hobbesmanc · 14/11/2024 22:23

Hidden Figures is on Netflix. That's very upbeat. Lessons on Chemistry on Apple. Ted Lasso feels like a blokey show but actually is all about women supporting women.

Hidden figures

Ha. Same post. Really enjoyed it

My old ass on Prime about woman coming of age story. It’s new. And funny and cute!

Mothersaandfilms · 14/11/2024 22:27

Thanks so much! Hidden Figures, My Old Ass, and The Help. I have access to all of those.

Unfortunately no Apple, so no Ted Lasso just now, but will bank that!

Never heard of that one either. Will check it out. Thanks!

Just discovered Queenpins is based on a real story. Also, Vince Vaughan. Very easy on the eyes.

It's about a decades long female friendship. Really heartwarming and uplifting. Got me through a tough time recently!

Mothersaandfilms · 14/11/2024 22:46

Oh that sounds like a much-needed watch. Thank you for recommending. I will try to find it available somewhere.

I recently watched Tag, but that's about a male friendship group.

Oldie but goodie - First Wives Club
Almost as old - Legally Blonde

Mothersaandfilms · 14/11/2024 22:54

Two films I actually have not seen despite knowing their titles. Thanks.

I have two weeks spare and six weeks of sheetness to try to repair.

Female solidarity/empowerment recommended. Thank you ladies.

The Queen's Gambit.

discoballdave · 14/11/2024 22:59

If you like Queenpins, try Good Girls on Netflix.

Mothersaandfilms · 14/11/2024 23:03

Highly recommend this Queenpins film as a very lightweight watch about female friendship and criminal activity. Very easy watch.

I really enjoyed queenpins. Hidden figures is another favourite. A man called Otto is quite dark but it has a beautiful story running through it..... just get your tissues ready x

If Nyad is still streaming, I loved it. Think it's on Netflix. It's important that they're women, but it's also unimportant.

shellyleppard · 14/11/2024 23:13

@Mothersaandfilms a man called Otto is really lovely. Made me cry though....and my 16 year old son!! But it has such a lovely story. Hope you find something good to watch. 💐🙏🫂❤️
