Don't like the thick glasses frames which are fashionable now

Needed new glasses as prescription has changed in both eyes, one a lot more than the other.

On looking at the frames available, there are loads of these big chunky wide frames. Think Buddy Holly and Brains from Thunderbirds. I don't like them as don't like anything too heavy looking and a thick frame at the bottom which irritates me.

Plus some people who wear these frames, it doesn't suit them. People need to think that fashion is less important than correcting their various vision problems. Besides most of these glasses are plastic moulded with built in nose pad area which for me slide off my nose when its hot.

Haha, ok OP. I'm sure everyone will take heed.

Get whatever you like.

There are millions of frame choices out there. Not sure why thicker frames being available or in fashion is an issue.

GoingUpUpUp · 02/11/2024 15:41

It’s fine if you don’t like them but for me (with a v.high prescription) they are a god send for hiding the thickness of my lenses. I pay for them to be thinned to the max but they are still thick so the wire framed ones look ridiculous

Relaxedandchilled · 02/11/2024 15:42

Um how odd, buy what you like.

Sirzy · 02/11/2024 15:42

If you don’t like them then buy what you do like.

I wear my glasses all the time, they are the one item I would happily spend money on getting the ones which I like and find comfy.

CatamaranViper · 02/11/2024 15:44

The world would be an incredibly bland place if we all liked everything you liked OP.

Pianowa · 02/11/2024 15:44

There’s loads of thin and frameless type ones too, even in my tiny optician. So go get them. I’ love my thick ones because they hold my thick lens without poking out so helpful from a none fashion prospective but I wear glasses from the morning I wake up until I go to bed, and I want something on my face which I like, which are thick black frames.

kitsuneghost · 02/11/2024 15:45

I love them and I suit them

CMOTDibbler · 02/11/2024 15:46

There's loads of different frames- in my small opticians I chose one pair of very minimal frames and one chunkier pair this week. My sight is just as good in both

Same. Get what you want, OP, and let others get what they want.

Are you sure? Maybe you should add a photo so OP can give verdict.

Seriously OP, buy what you like and stop judging others for their choices.

This. Every word of it.

GrimDamnFanjo · 02/11/2024 15:51

Well you don't have to wear them.
I'm sure this is similar to another recent thread. This style really winds people up!

DoAWheelie · 02/11/2024 15:54

Don't get them then. Get what you like and everyone else can do the same.

Soozikinzii · 02/11/2024 15:55

Ive just been in asda opticians, and my prescription hasn't changed and I was disappointed in a way because the glasses in there were so great. All different styles, yes, they did have the Joe90 ones - but loads of others .

Serencwtch · 02/11/2024 16:00

You should've gone to specsavers. They have all varieties of frames I got 1 with a very thin rim & one almost completely rimless.
I prefer lighter thinner rims - mainly because I had to wear the NHS issue thick plastic ones in the 90's but plenty of people like thicker ones.

Think it's acceptable for the person who is wearing them to choose the style?!

AutumnLeaves24 · 02/11/2024 16:03

Not only are you being unreasonable, but you're being weird.

buy for you, what you like.

stop judging what others like, buy & wear.

Dahlietta · 02/11/2024 16:10

Throwing out there that I HATE those little nosepad things on what I suppose are traditional glasses. I much prefer plastic moulded frames that don't need them!

Pancakeflipper · 02/11/2024 16:18

I love thick glasses.

They are soooooo sturdy. Don't Bend.

And can have wonderful lenses that means I can read close up, read my PC screens and spot sell by dates and ingredients (allergy child) on supermarket shelves without picking everything up to peer.

Dramatic · 02/11/2024 16:28

Yeah my lenses look awful in the thin frames because the lenses are really thick and it looks weird. Just get whatever you like

PickAChew · 02/11/2024 16:32

I have a skinny, bony nose and the plastic moulded frames don't work for me at all but they're great for Ds2 who doesn't get on with nose pieces. It's good to have a choice.

What's your point, OP?
