Don't like the thick glasses frames which are fashionable now

Needed new glasses as prescription has changed in both eyes, one a lot more than the other.

On looking at the frames available, there are loads of these big chunky wide frames. Think Buddy Holly and Brains from Thunderbirds. I don't like them as don't like anything too heavy looking and a thick frame at the bottom which irritates me.

Plus some people who wear these frames, it doesn't suit them. People need to think that fashion is less important than correcting their various vision problems. Besides most of these glasses are plastic moulded with built in nose pad area which for me slide off my nose when its hot.

I'm glad that there are so many options available. I've worn glasses since I was about ten and am in my 40s now. In that time I've had all sorts of frames, from thin wire to chunky plastic, roundish lenses, cat-eye style, tall and narrow. At this point, I don't actually care that much what they look like, so long as they are comfortable and help me see better!

Don't like them? Don't buy them.

Are you my mum? She said I looked like both Ronnie Corbett and Ronnie Barker.

You do realise that thick framed glasses have prescription lenses in, just the same as thin framed ones, right?

I don’t like the massive ones on me, they look fab on some people. I do love the plastic moulded frames, I’ve always found nose pads really uncomfortable.

Throwing out there that I HATE those little nosepad things on what I suppose are traditional glasses. I much prefer plastic moulded frames that don't need them!

Me too. I wore glasses with them for years before realising how much comfier the thicker frames are!

as someone who has worn glasses since childhood I am just happy at how much more variety there is now!

I think they look great on some people, but they don't suit me at all, and I like the lightest glasses I can get. Vive la difference!

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 02/11/2024 18:38

So don’t wear them? It’s not obligatory.

People suit different things and have tastes that don’t align. It’s always been like that.

Well I don’t believe it’s compulsory to buy chunky frames yet?

I’ve recently had to get new reading glasses and distance ones as well. Just want to put it out there that Prada frames are the most comfortable I’ve ever had. The woman working in Boots opticians was wearing them too and completely agreed. (Second pair half price)
