OHraging at me for being late home for dog. Out with my bestie, first time in a year, got carried away with the vino. Got home 2 hrs later than anticipated l I never do this and we’ve been together for 20 years. He’s doing my nut in, no harm done IMO. I’m upset because I had this carry on with my ex. I thought I’d moved on.

Was the dog ok? Surely 2 hours is neither here nor there. Where was your husband while you were out?
he’s being an arse and making a mountain out of a molehill.

Stormyweatheroutthere · 01/11/2024 20:47

Was the ddog mad though?

BadgersOfHonour · 01/11/2024 20:48

How long was the dog left for?

TTPDTS · 01/11/2024 20:51

I mean, if you were 2 hours late home with zero communication + needed to be home for something - not a great look. I'd be side eyeing DH for that.

Comparing the situation to your past situations with your ex sounds a bit much if it's a one off - especially if you've been with your current partner for 20 years!!

He was at work. Dog was dropped off by dog walker early than I expected. I am with dog 24/7 normally. I am retired but OH still work He had a wee accident which had to be cleared up by OH. I feel awful but peed off that I can’t have one bloomin afternoon off in 10 years. I am always looking after dog. I can’t do anything without considering his welfare which I don’t mind at all.

If the dog was dropped off early how were you to know? Hes being ridiculous, dogs have wee accidents occasionally it’s not the end of the world!

Sounds more like he was looking for a reason to sulk about you going out.

haje · 01/11/2024 21:28

Did the dog really have an accident? Is it a puppy? Or elderly? See,s strange if one walk happened.

We had an accident one day and dogs were left 12 hours. Not ideal but just pleased we were home.

He is totally being awful and with your relationship history this is a huge red flag.

Changingplace · 01/11/2024 21:33

Really good point, if the dog had been out with the dog walker is it likely to have had an accident? Or is he trying to find another thing so he can make you feel guilty for having a rare trip out?

Pandasnacks · 01/11/2024 21:37

Is there a back story? Did you know the dog was at home?

Coralsunset · 01/11/2024 21:39

How long was dog left for?

I wouldn’t leave my dog longer than 4/5 hours. I can understand him being upset if dog had been left long enough to per or poo itself.

However, a calm adult conversation about it should have been sufficient. Does he have form for being shouty or verbal attacks? Do you think he might be trying to punish you for going out with friends and drinking?

JintyMcG1422 · 01/11/2024 21:41

The dog is 6 years old. He was alone for 2 hours. He had been out all day with dogwalker ( from 9 to 4) Oh got home at 6 I got home at 6.16

Mudflaps · 01/11/2024 21:45

I seriously doubt your dog pee'd inside, I believe you are being lied to and need to seriously think about your relationship and why you are being treated in this way.

Oh he’s winding you up mate.

Are you convinced the dog had an accident?

DecafDodger · 01/11/2024 21:51

6yo healthy dog should not have any issues being alone for 2 hours.

Apparently it was #2 . But according to ring camera timeline I find it hard to believe. OH arrive home 6.30. Oh takes dog out 6.37, I arrive 6.50. No evidence of dog mess ie smell etc, OH return with dog 6.55. I’m bloody mad and don’t trust myself to speak

I’d be really surprised if a healthy 6 YO, housetrained dog who’d been out from 9am-4pm would have peed indoors so soon after.

No

OP posts:
BeMintBee · 01/11/2024 21:57

Unless the dog has separation anxiety or previous history of not being house trained then a dog that has been out with a dog Walker all day is highly unlikely to have taken a dump in the house after two hours alone.

How long is the dog normally ok being left alone for?

Thepeopleversuswork · 01/11/2024 21:57

Yeah I smell a rat here too. Sounds very unlikely the dog had an accident. And honestly if he had it’s not the end of the world.

Also I initially thought you might have rolled in at midnight but you were back after 6?

This sounds more like control to me. Does he have form for this?

Pandasnacks · 01/11/2024 21:59

Again did you no the dog walker had brought the dog home when they had?

ExitPursuedByABare · 01/11/2024 21:59

2 hours is ridiculous. I work in dog rescue and we do t like a dog being left for more than 4 hours.

Doggymummar · 01/11/2024 22:00

No way dog would do that, unless dog walker hadn't taken it out.

Yeah he’s lying.

Do you know why? What’s the relationship like in general?

FGS, you did nothing wrong. Surprising that doggy had an accident in that period (i’d keep an eye on him just to check he’s ok at the weekend, but this is unrelated to being out a few hours longer than you’d thought).

I often leave mine for a couple of hours (but never longer as am also always at home usually).

I think your DH was in a grumpy mood for some reason, if this is not normal behaviour, as it really is ok (healthy) for a dog to manage for a couple of hours.
