to not want to see this stuff

I’ve had Facebook since 2006, have never viewed and looked for inappropriate content on there! the past 6 months or year every couple of scrolls shows me a photo of a barely clothes woman or memes based around big breasts etc. Just suggestive and weird content. my marketplace is similar with paintings of naked girls and things of that sort. I don’t want to see this stufff and I’m wondering why it would come up? any ideas. my partner doesn’t have Facebook but does use mine when at work as gets bored on his break. I’ve asked him if his seen anything weird or inappropriate on there and his sworn he never has and when I’ve showed him the market place stuff he wondered how it was actually allowed and not reported. I’m confused as to why it’s now showing? do you get this stuff- I mark it all as show less but get even more!

Simply, he is lying, sorry. You get shown what you click on, search for, or linger over.

menopausalmare · 28/10/2024 22:40

I know when my partner has his eye on a new Sonos speaker as adverts appear on my Facebook feed so.....

Itsmychristmasdress · 28/10/2024 22:42

I disagree facebook is a cesspit. The amount of wierd shit that shows up on only my device, with only one account. I have removed and blocked fobtent but it keeps sending more it's like the interaction of blocking promotes the algorithm.

KitsyWitsy · 28/10/2024 22:43

He’s looking at ladies at work. Bit grim but not surprising.

MilesOfCarpetTiles · 28/10/2024 22:44

Go to the menu then "Feeds". You should see far less of the random crap it wants to show you. Annoyingly you have to do this often, it doesn't stay stuck on your feed.

ManhattanPopcorn · 28/10/2024 22:45

He's lying.

Something that was searched has changed your algorithm. If it wasn't you, it must have been him.

JaneGrint · 28/10/2024 22:46

The obvious answer is that he’s looking at that stuff when he’s on your Facebook.

Facebook tends to show you more of the same sort of stuff that you’re looking at already.

CrispyCrumpets · 28/10/2024 22:46

Change your password and insists he gets his account. The problem will probably resolve itself.

Yes, I like running, dogs and horses.

Breasted ladies I do not get in any shape or form......

Noseybookworm · 28/10/2024 22:51

Yes he is looking at this stuff on your Facebook and that is why you are getting loads of it in your feed. Change your password so he can't continue. I bet he'll make his own profile then!

HerBloodIsLikeLiquidFire · 28/10/2024 22:56

Mine shows adverts every couple of actual posts with gambling or anime. Both of which I hate and I report every one as irrelevant. It says they won't come up any more but about a month later it's the same shit all over again. I don’t see the vast majority of posts from people I’m friends with. Just ads and "suggested" things. I agree with a PP it's a cesspit. I’m using it less and less as a result.
Bring back MySpace as it was back in the day.

samarrange · 28/10/2024 22:57

To be fair you only have to click once or twice when Facebook suggests something for it to start sticking to your feed. I looked up a friend who happens to play hockey three weeks ago and I also looked up some stuff to do with Ireland. Now I get the coming weekend's Irish senior hockey league fixtures every Friday.

So he might not have started out looking for smut. He might have clicked on some things that men tend to like more than women, and then stuff that reveals his age bracket, and then the algorithm tried a woman in a tight t-shirt and he clicked on that, and so on. If he is looking for actual porn and trying to find it on Facebook he's going to be in for a rather unexciting time.

TwistedWonder · 28/10/2024 23:00

Why on earth do you let him use your FB rather than him having his own account?

And FB works on algorithms so it shows you stuff related to your searches and interactions.

If you have Cookies/tracking turned off then you are more likely to get weird porn ads I've found

Some games I play, I turn all tracking ads off and I've found the adverts are lots of Hentai type J-Games and werewolf porn books. The ones I don't turn tracking off on are more local attractions, things I've viewed recently like Amazon and games that fit what I play.

Or it's what he's looking at.

Both are possible

Wellbeige · 28/10/2024 23:05

Urgh.

A few weeks ago I went to Thorpe Park. Very long drive. Teenagers forgot their jackets/hoodies. I lent them my stuff and wore my dry robe.

I must have been talking about my dry robe and my phone was listening.

I was then fed groups I might like…

yes there was a photo of me on ‘Dry Robe Wankers’. Awful.

Wellbeige · 28/10/2024 23:07

Sorry I don’t know what the point of my post was.

I could post and defend myself (it was in my car as I’m a sea swimmer) but WTF.

Algorithms are scary!

PolaroidPrincess · 28/10/2024 23:08

I have FB and regularly use DH's as I do a bit of his marketing.

Not once seen any content like this. His is currently filled with adverts for chainsaws, I'm expecting a large box to be delivered anytime soon Grin

Your DH is lying.

Caerulea · 28/10/2024 23:09

Partially it's true that it shows you more of what you look at and that counts as just pausing your scrolling over something.

Occasionally the algorithm throws a bunch of random shit to see what sticks & in the last year I've had -

Photos/videos of sportsppl dying mid sport
Breastfeeding fetishism
Andrew Tate
More Andrew fucking Tate
Andrew Tate's cunty brother
TRA content

And the most obvious one that proves it's NOT down to my activity?

Spiders. Nothing would make me look at, search for, spiders. Not in fb, not on any browser - nothing. I've previously thrown my phone cos of a surprise spider image on IG & I've image preview switched off on twitter to avoid the 8 legged wankers.

Given you've told dh about this he'd be a moron to keep doing it knowing it's messing with your algorithm & giving him away. Not impossible of course.

Is that his name? I've precisely no interest in screwing up my Google algorithm by asking & I just couldn't give a fuck.

Andrew Tate's cunty brother will do just fine

Josette77 · 28/10/2024 23:26

Those pop up because someone has clicked on similar ads.

Sorry OP. 😢

Also don't share your Facebook. He gets his own, problem solved.

Thesheerrelief · 28/10/2024 23:52

I get a lot of werewolf porn suggestions. Only one account and I'm the only person who has access to it. I've never searched for, read, or otherwise sought out werewolf porn.
