AIBU to have cold sprouts for breakfast?

No of course I'm not. Delicious little nutty nuggets. I just thought I would post some sprout love because we are getting towards the time of year when people become vehement in their hatred of sprouts.

What I don't understand is why people who don't like sprouts feel that they must have them as part of their Christmas dinner. Every year the supermarkets go sprout-crazy in December. But the sadder thing is that there are fewer and fewer sprouts available at other times of year. Bloody Tesco are only doing them pre-packed these days. You can't get loose sprouts until Christmas, when they also (and bizarrely) do those expensive 'sprouts on a stick' that still have to be cut from a horrible stem that has pointlessly been transported from the field.

Can we not just go back to normal with sprouts and treat them as a friendly little staple that is wonderful unless overcooked?

My DD(15) loves green veg. One Xmas when she was 4 all she ate for Christmas dinner was a bowl of sprouts with gravy. Let’s just say it was a fragrant afternoon 😂

YANBU - breakfast sprouts are the best.

Its a wee bit early for them just yet though (I’d happily eat them year round but they’re seasonal - best after the first frost)

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 15/10/2024 10:36

Pre roasted and chilled with a nice green goddess dressing, or just raw?

Toddlerteaplease · 15/10/2024 10:36

I love sprouts!

Catsinaflat · 15/10/2024 10:39

I slice them and saute in coconut oil. Delicious.

Just boiled and plain. Not even buttered.
Not raw though. I'm sproutist, but not a sprout fundamentalist.

Slice in half and add to a tandoori curry with beef or lamb. The sauce gets between all the layers.

Slice, steam and slather with garlic butter.

It's the first time I've started a thread with a poll. Didn't realise you had to vote in your own poll in order to see the results. Surely that must skew all poll results in favour of YANBU??

Having sprouts tonight, halved, then baked in the oven covered in parmesan

PruneKeith · 15/10/2024 18:13

Oh my goodness!! Hot buttered sprouts (a sprinkling of white pepper optional but delicious) is a perfect breakfast!

Hooray for winter!

MagpiePi · 15/10/2024 18:21

A cold sprout curry is an even better breakfast IMO.

Ikilledtheorchidagain · 15/10/2024 18:23

I love a spout. Pure, unadulterated sprout.

God I can't spell. Meant to say sprout.

Boomer55 · 15/10/2024 18:23

My daughter does the same. Blergh. They’re bad enough hot.🤢

If you go to a local
market they usually have them on the stick for a really good price

YABU tiny green balls of evil not fit for human consumption and I don't care what day of the year it is no bollock of Satan will ever cross my threshold.

Thesquaregiraffe · 15/10/2024 18:48

When I was Greece this year one of the hotels we stayed in served warm Brussel sprouts and carrots for breakfast at the self serve buffet - never seen it before or since to be honest!

Iamacatslave · 15/10/2024 18:50

I love sprouts.

cardibach · 15/10/2024 18:50

YABU to eat any sprouts at any time, regardless of temperature.

Rarebitten · 15/10/2024 18:52

I actually did have cold sprouts for breakfast last weekend —dinner party leftovers. DH fries them with chillies and crushed peanuts. Hot, crunchy, delicious.

Caerulea · 15/10/2024 18:53

Bloody love sprouts!!

I've a clear memory of being about 5 & my grandad sitting in the corner of the dining room eating something out of a brown paper bag. I was BEGGING for whatever they were & he kept telling me 'oh no no, no you won't like these at all, they're disgusting' which (of course) just made me hell bent on liking whatever they were which were raw sprouts. So I sat under the table eating them with what I can only assume was a very smug looking grandad.

They are very marmite ,personally I love them but so much hate for them🤣

WeeOrcadian · 15/10/2024 19:23

YANBU

Only if they're roasted with salt, pepper & chilli flakes though

I love sprouts. I had them for breakfast on holiday!

I'd eat them everyday if I could

We never had them growing up until after the first frost as my Mom insisted they were better, my Dad disagreed because he said we don't know when the first frost was for where the sprouts were grown and our first frost might not have been there's 😂

They do this in Spain and the Canaries!

I love sprouty breakfasts!
