To ask if anyone else has received a scam text message about an overdue penalty charge?

I have. It said “You have an overdue Penalty charge notice, today is the last day you can get a 50% discount on your fine…” There was a link which took me to a what looked like gov.uk page, but the web page address was not gov.uk. You had to put your number in to retrieve the details of the penalty charge which I probably unwisely did. Something came up giving the date of the penalty charge as 18 Sept but no location details. We were in Sweden on that date and the car was parked at Heathrow short stay!

Just wondering if anyone else has had similar.

Yep. I had one a couple of weeks ago. Knew it was a scam since I don't even own a car.

Yes I've had this one but just deleted it along with all the other spam I get.

Any driving/parking penalties I've had in the past have always come by post. They get your address from it being linked to your number plate. Anything by text would seem to be a scam to me.

I got one today from a random mobile number. I reported and blocked it

What info did you input @KimberleyClark ? You should never click on links in dodgy looking texts or emails

I haven't but there are many post on our local NextDoor about it so it is clearly a scam doing the rounds.

Yes, I got one recently. Apparently I had a parking penalty charge, which doesn't exist. Either you get a parking charge from a private company or you get a penalty charge issued by a local authority which may be for parking as well as other infractions.

You would also never get a text. And if you did, it wouldn't be peppered with spelling mistakes.

I got one sent on my phone, car is registered to my DH so any penalty would go to him, although we’ve never given our mobile numbers to anyone relating to car/parking. It was mentioned on the BBC Breakfast show this week being a scam, along with most texts that you have to click on a link, these are usually scams.

Yes I have. It's a very popular scam atm.

You need to be really mistrustful and never click on anything that comes to you in a random text or email.

If I’d thought about it a bit more I’d have realised it was a scam straightaway. 🤦‍♀️

I have a lot pretending to be from Evri. Must be hard to work out of it's a scam if you're actually expecting a delivery from them

I've had both messages. I don't own a car and I am not expecting a package. I did not open either of them. It's awful that we have to be so careful.

I got one but it said I wouldn't be able to drive my car if I didn't pay. Rumbled the scam. That and there was no date of the alleged fine.

Definitely a scam - you do have to be careful obviously, but don't feel bad as they are designed to catch you out and they are the bastards, not you.

That one is rampant at the moment, some using comically garbled and threatening language. I'm getting scores of scam calls and messages per week at the moment. Gives me such rage thinking about how many folks must get caught out.
