To ask if anyone else has received a scam text message about an overdue penalty charge?

I have. It said “You have an overdue Penalty charge notice, today is the last day you can get a 50% discount on your fine…” There was a link which took me to a what looked like gov.uk page, but the web page address was not gov.uk. You had to put your number in to retrieve the details of the penalty charge which I probably unwisely did. Something came up giving the date of the penalty charge as 18 Sept but no location details. We were in Sweden on that date and the car was parked at Heathrow short stay!

Just wondering if anyone else has had similar.

Just ask yourself how come they have your phone number or email address.

How would people chasing an ignored parking fine or wanting to deliver a parcel know that information?

Yeah, it's just not the procedure. It's first notice affixed to the windscreen, second notice in the post. At no point does anyone text you! I doubt the DVLA gives out phone numbers to any authority.

I reckon they just spam as many random numbers as possible and hope they come across someone vulnerable or easily frightened. It's horrible behaviour.

Also, a phone call from an 020 number claiming to be Vodafone. I'm not with Vodafone.

Yes, yesterday. I forwarded to the mobile's spam reporting number.

I had 2 of these last week, and like several other posters I don't own a car, or drive.

My mum had one a few days ago telling her that she had a parking fine - she doesn't even have a driving licence and has never had a driving lesson in her life.

This was covered recently on Rip off Britain, it is a scam.

Yes actually, they sent it to my son. He showed me as he didn't know what it was, bearing in mind he's only 13, so can't drive and doesn't own a car. It made me laugh 😃.

My daughter then got one the day after, maybe slightly more convincing as at lest she has her provisional driving licence, but still no car.

They just send them out to random numbers to see who will take the bait.

Yes, there's loads of them about at the moment. I got one that didn't even bother to spoof the senders number - why would someone in India send me a parking ticket?

Why would you click something you have recognized as a phishing link? The harm could be done simply by clicking it.

OP, you really shouldn't be clicking links in txt messages from unknown senders, let alone sticking yout details in.
