Does teething cause loose stools?

Hello,

My DD (10M) has had 3 loose stools today. She's showing signs of teething (drooling, irritable, wants to put everything in her mouth etc).

Are the loose stools a part of teething or are they separate to that?

The internet gives mixed information so I want to ask all the mums out there that may (or may not) have gone through this!

Thanks

There’s no hard evidence for this. It’s really anecdotal

ohfook · 28/09/2024 08:45

In my experience definitely, but I don't think there's any actual evidence to support it.

Nursery send home with 3 loose nappies and have never accepted 'but he's teething' as a reason which frustrates me no end. Just because there currently is no evidence for something doesn't make it incorrect.

@ohfook that was going to be my next question - what will nursery make of this? I didn't think they'd let her stay and would say she needs to go home too.

Based on this thread I'd say there's a link between teething and stools being looser would be much easier if healthcare professionals accepted that although there isn't enough research, it can and does happen!

Buy some Ashton & Powders teething powders.

Yes, and green too. Acid.

Tiredofthewhirring · 28/09/2024 13:32

Yes. Teething nappies are vile. It's all the extra acid as teeth try and break through the gums though, not the drool!

Tiredofthewhirring · 28/09/2024 13:33

The vinegar smell of them is the giveaway....

Tagyoureit · 28/09/2024 13:52

Research apparently say no, all us mummies say yes!

Can someone please help me by telling me approximately how long the loose stools last for during a teething episode? My DD is still doing loose stools (explosive - every single time she does one it results in poop everywhere) and I'm just wondering is it normal for this to happen for days?

Thanks
