To be stung by a wasp at 1.30am

i mean...I think it is bloody unreasonable of the wasp.

I just woke up to a sharp pain in my upper thigh. Thought I had been bitten. Flung off the duvet and put the light on. .. and there's a sodding tiny wasp on the floor.

My leg is on absolute fire now and it really hurts.

I mean ... The middle of the night, in bed, in nearly October and the window is shut. What the hell? I'm in agony and need to go back to sleep as I've got to get up for work in 4 hours. 😭

I've done the vinegar thing but it is still hurting like hell.

Is this an omen? What the HELL?!

Had to share with someone, if anyone is up. Ow...ow...owwww.

Oh I really feel for you, I HATE wasps 😱

Doingtheboxerbeat · 25/09/2024 02:15

This time last year , 2 joined me in my 2am shower 😱. They didn't sting me because they looked on their last legs.
It's startling to say the least to see them so late.

peppermintteadrinker · 25/09/2024 02:20

@Doingtheboxerbeat flipping heck. Yes, it looked half dead, even if I hadn't squashed it.

I've been stung many times before but not usually indoors or this time of year! Yes... definitely alarming! 😭

God it hurts.

I had to get rid of one from our bedroom tonight. Heard buzzing in the light, thought it was too loud for a daddy long legs! I got stung three times in 36 hours during the summer - all separate occasions so I feel your pain. Once the throb goes after an hour or so I found it more bearable. Hope you get back to sleep soon!

Cherryana · 25/09/2024 02:24

I had one in bed two days ago.
I only discovered it because the cat had a poo-y bum and I had to take all the bed clothes off. Which was annoying but it did save me from being stung in the night. It was dozy but how did it get there? It was right at the bottom near where it’s all tucked in all the time.

Bizarre.

Cherryana · 25/09/2024 02:25

Hope the sting wears off soon - it’s so painful @peppermintteadrinker

Kay00 · 25/09/2024 02:28

I shared a prawn with a wasp for lunch today. I watched it fly back and forth, cutting small sections off with it's mandibles, taking each one to its nest. I didn't get stug, but massively sympathise! It must feel extra unjustified being stung whilst you peacefully slept in your bed!

Am1990 · 25/09/2024 02:30

Aww that’s so painful! You may have already done this- clean the bite with soap & water
place a bag of frozen peas or ice wrapped in a tea towel on the sting for 10 mins on, 10 mins off
That’ll help the swelling go down and numb the itch.Hope you do get some sleep.

Daddy long legs are completely silent.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/09/2024 05:21

I do a compress first of a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol, take Tylenol and then ice.
I woke to being bitten on the back of the neck by a spider once (horror) and a carpenter ant back of my knee another time. Not fun. Sympathies. 💐
eta: might also want to take an anti-histamine.

Well they did say it was too loud for one!

Zanatdy · 25/09/2024 05:55

Oh god I hate wasps. I once had over 200 live ones in my flat when I had 3 live nests in the attic and gutter. Not joking when I say it was the worse 3wks of my life until they all went and it’s really made me so fearful of them. I can’t even see a photo of one. This is the time of year when they really start going crazy as they die off. This was late October when the nests happened as I had been away for half term. So pretty much almost November. I don’t know how my then 8yr old and I didn’t get stung.

take an antihistamine if you have any if still red / swollen

pavillion1 · 25/09/2024 06:27

I have probably seen 3 wasps all summer but then i woke up with one in my hair last week . It still makes me shudder.

Augustus40 · 25/09/2024 06:29

Seen literally one wasp this year.

PollyannaWhittier · 25/09/2024 06:53

The same thing happened to me earlier this year, stung on the finger in the middle of the night. I posted a thread at the time, I was outraged !!!

Ewwww. Did you avoid being stung?

I manage some sleep but I'm really tired. My leg hurts but thanks it's not swollen or anything. It's less red and angry than when it happened

Daddy long legs are completely silent.

There's been loads of Daddy Long Legs about. They're sort of silent but they do bash about into things so I've heard them before tapping on the lightbulb or shade.

Now I think about it, I freaked out last week as I found a dead one right next to my face when I woke up.

The insects are out to get me! 😱

Hate wasps. They sting for no bloody reason. Just walking down the street doing the school run and bang flys out a bush and in my leg. Bastards.

Saw one yesterday putting the washing out and thought fuck sake it’s that time again. They need to be more like bee’s leave us alone we leave you alone.

Daddy long legs are completely silent.

Not when they blunder about like a drunk scaffolder trapped inside a cupboard full of mismatched tupperware.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 25/09/2024 07:15

I used to have to check the curtains at this time of year, as wasps would hibernate tucked into the pleats at the top. Then when the heating came on in a month or so they'd all wake up and come buzzing out, bleary eyed and hangry.

endofthelinefinally · 25/09/2024 07:20

Get some antihistamine tablets in and some waspeze spray. It is that time of year. Don't walk around in your bare feet- they are often crawling, and shake your curtains before you go to bed. I am channelling my late mum, she was a wise woman.
[I once woke up when I heard a small thud. Put the light on and there was a huge wasp under my window. It had fallen out of the curtain top].

You have my sympathies. Please come back and post again otherwise we'll all think they DID get you! Grin

Threewheeler1 · 25/09/2024 07:32

@Zanatdy I can relate to this! Our roof is a nightmare for nests.
The worst one was under the bath upstairs...
When we took the side off (a long time after the wasp man came to deal with them) the entire void was filled with a huge papery nest. It was massive! 😮
We kept getting them everywhere in the house, all times of the day, and the next year they came back in a different spot. Haven't seen many this year though, probably hiding somewhere👀
Worst run-in was in lockdown, cutting the hedge and disturbing a nest...got stung about 20 times, all over. God, they were so painful 😭
I was running down the garden squealing and flapping whilst DS's and DH just watched from the house...
Barricaded myself in the bathroom with 2 stuck in my bra, doing their thing😡
Absolute (environmentally necessary) bastards, I'm so scared of them now - just thinking about the stings makes my hair stand up 😟

Sorry, long story OP! I found a damp flannel/tea towel helped and I tried the warmed teaspoon trick (make it hot and apply pressure to the sting with the back of the spoon). Not sure if it worked really but anything's worth a go...
Mostly used cold aloe vera gel and lots of very, very vocal weeping and wailing 😬

Fadingmemoriesofyou · 25/09/2024 07:33

OMG now I am terrified.

I am anaphylactic to both Bee and Wasp stings and the thought of having to cope with that alone at 1.30am fills me with terror.

My Epi-pens live in the kitchen (handbag when out) but will be coming to bed with me in future.
