🤬 They’ve only gone and changed them. I’ve been eating them for 50+ years. My dirty food secret. And now they are Richmond sausages in the tin which have that horrible Richmond sausages taste.

Im so upset.

Bought three tins as well. 😰

I actually really like Richmond's frozen veggie sausages. Just not with beans. Freshly cooked mash, with plenty of butter and black pepper, that'll do nicely. 😋

@ReallyNotsobad I also have an aversion to sausages with skins.
My mother used to make a sausage casserole and I can always remember fishing the condom like skins out before they made me gag.

I'm not alone, nobody else gets it!! I used to cut the ends off as well, yuk. It seems the skins are either too thick, or too thin, the thin ones can't be easily removed, so you end up with little pieces still attached. 🤢
I drove my parents crazy to the point they found the skinless ones at the time! I remember thinking finally!

Ooh! That’s so annoying. I can highly recommend the Heinz beef ravioli as a plan B.

I have had to switch to these. The new sausages are awful 😞

PickAChew · 25/09/2024 17:52

My mum used to buy the skinless sausages. They were revolting 🤢

Another vote for
Branston beans & sausages. Far superior to Heinz

But not gf.

Aren't the Richmond ones just another in the range rather than a replacement?
Also, Chef Sausage & Beans were the best. I still miss those.

I think they are as they have different barcodes. Someone at work put them out with the other Heinz and sausages. Didn't check on if they had the same SKU.

You can remove the skin by using a knife and gently scoring the sausage; it usually comes right off, unless it is too thin. I do this usually for sausage rolls, rather than a sausage meat block.
I used to like the skinless ones as a child, but it was the 90s, and full of turkey dinosaurs, sunny d and general crap food. I dread to think what the meat content was back then as well!
I haven't tried Richmond in years, so no idea how they are these days.

If anyone wants great gluten free sausages I recommend Waitrose kick number 1 Cumberland. So meaty you can cook one and chop it into Branson beans for a great meal -

Their pepper and nutmeg ones are nicely seasoned to go with baked beans. They've messed about with their No. 1 sausages (like they have their toilet roll) and they're not as nice as they used to be :(

Crikeyalmighty · 26/09/2024 13:21

@PickAChew oh I will try those !! Sound lovely

Sadly, one thing I learned from The Apprentice is that sausages only need to be 28% meat to still be called sausages. So they could be worse!

That's not strictly true... This is copied from Wiki, but I know the 42% is correct as one of my biggest clients is a sausage manufacturer, and makes sausages for 3 of the big supermarkets!

There are various laws concerning the meat content of sausages in the UK. The minimum meat content to be labelled pork sausages is 42% (30% for other types of meat sausages), although to be classed as meat, the pork can contain 30% fat and 25% connective tissue. Often the cheapest supermarket pork sausages do not have the necessary meat content to be described as pork sausages and are simply labelled sausages

Oh and I've very often had NINE sausages in my Aldi tin of B&Ss. Just saying......
This is going to turn out like Saturday Kitchen and their wine recommendations isn't it?
Or when Aldi and Lidl get the Stollen bites in.
Empty shelves.
Aldi red kidney beans in chilli sauce are also better than Waitrose.
