Heinz Beans and Sausages

🤬 They’ve only gone and changed them. I’ve been eating them for 50+ years. My dirty food secret. And now they are Richmond sausages in the tin which have that horrible Richmond sausages taste.

Im so upset.

Bought three tins as well. 😰

I thought you could still get the original ones too? If not, try the vegan ones. They're pretty good and my non-vegan family like them too.

AnnPerkins · 23/09/2024 15:25

It's a permanent change. There were lots of complaints but they can't change back.

I just went on the Heinz Facebook page and there seems to be a long-running organised campaign to bring back Toast Toppers. If they can ignore that I'm sure they can ignore a few hundred coeliacs Grin

Nooooooo
Fuck.

Fun fact: as an 8 year old I wrote a letter of complaint to Heinz after finding only 3 sausages in a can and they sent me TWO HUNDRED cans !!

Wasn’t it “Chef” brand that did ‘London Grill?’
OMG, that was amazing, a staple of a cheap quick Saturday lunchtime meal! Sausages, beans, kidney and bacon in the tin!

It was!
God I could murder that now.

Ooh! That’s so annoying. I can highly recommend the Heinz beef ravioli as a plan B.

BakedBeansforabrain · 23/09/2024 15:54

Why the fuck do people keep buying Heinz beans the are disgusting, the beans are mushy and the juice is watery. It’s like beans in tomato soup.

Branston are far superior

Nearlyadoctor · 23/09/2024 16:10

ReallyNotsobad · 23/09/2024 14:55

Be careful with the Branston tins though. We have been encountering an issue with lots of their tins being black/worn on the bottom. It looked like the tomato sauce has corroded the bottom. I researched it, and apparently they aren't safe to eat when they're like this.

Edited

That’s really interesting to hear as we had 2 tins recently like this and I thought perhaps I just hadn’t previously noticed .

Yes, we have reported it to Branston, and haven't had a reply yet. It is a shame because the beans are amazing. They have the packs of 6 everywhere at the moment as well. I looked it up to see if they're safe to eat, and it looked like the acid in the tomatoes had corroded the tin, and that isn't safe. The tin they're using doesn't appear to be sufficient enough to withstand the product.😱I was hoping we had just encountered a bad batch!

I don't know if this will help but I've always preffered the co-op and morrisons own brand ones. Give them a try

SkiingIsHeaven · 24/09/2024 22:16

Think Keir Starmer has been thinking about this issue today

Another vote for
Branston beans & sausages. Far superior to Heinz

As a 70s child who's always loathed baked beans, I'm just miffed that I don't seem to be able to buy spaghetti hoops and veggie or vegan sausages in a tin, for my lazy lunch. First world problems, I know.

TeaAndCakeFTW · 24/09/2024 22:42

Sethera · 23/09/2024 15:07

I once opened a tin and one of the sausages had gone green - never been able to face them since.

I've never been able to eat that shit since the first time I tried it and it wasn't sausage, it was disgusting mushy hotdog.

If it's real miniature richmonds, like little cocktail sausages, yabu op. That'd be a great improvement.

BestIsWest · 24/09/2024 22:47

DH is a lifelong devotee and has switched to Aldi’s own. I can’t comment as I don’t like them but he seems happy.

HowAmYa · 24/09/2024 22:53

Sainsbury's version is the best.
I find store beans a bit shite usually (m&s beans have a sweaty smell...) but Sainsbos beans are great
The Sainsbury's Beans with sausages is like heaven (add some cheese and black pepper nom)

purpleme12 · 24/09/2024 22:55

They've changed the Asda sausages and beans too!

DBSFstupid · 24/09/2024 23:00

I'm sick of this sort of thing happening.
Rowntree's fruit pastilles - the individual flavours have disappeared.
McVities Digestive Biscuits and dark chocolate Biscuits - taste foul now.
ALL Cadbury's chocolate.
The rank taste of Quality street and Roses chocolates...
plenty more that I can't think of right now but I empathise with you OP.

I know, I honestly don't understand why so many people still buy and rave about roses/quality street/heros etc, I can only think it is a kind of tradition, as it is want they have always gotten. They're also always on deal in their forever shrinking tins before Christmas.

There are very few chocolates I like now. Digestives have changed and may as well be labelled as a rich tea they're so bland. The dark chocolate ones I used to love, but the chocolate is now so thin on top. The unbranded digestives aren't great either, so I am yet to find a replacement with that rich addictive taste we all know and love.

No I agree. We couldn't get away with them either. The beans themselves seemed hard and really pale. My 7 year old wouldn't eat them, even with ketchup mixed into the sauce.

Richmond are our sausage of choice for a cooked breakfast so OH was quite excited that his dirty secret standby meal now used them.
They were £2 a tin st Tesco so he bought their own brand instead.

Oh I remember having the skinless ones in the 90s, because I hates sausage skin! My parents had to get them in specially 😂
I am a bit weary of brands sometimes now, as feel they use their name to churn them out. I used to love lidl's delux, but they have now changed, and taste smooth and a bit rubbery rather than meat Tescos used to be nice, but no idea what they're like now.
