To return this audible book because of the narrator?

BigOnBooks · 16/09/2024 07:57

I downloaded a Cathy Glass book but whoever is narrating it makes the little boy sound like Horrid Henry. She does his voice in such a whiny and annoying way that I'm struggling to take it seriously.

I'm thinking of returning it for a different book and then buying a hard copy of this one.

I'm sure that's allowed isn't it?

I didn't know that was a thing. I've downloaded a book without listening to the sample first, and am cross that the accent is totally wrong! It's do distracting, I can't listen!

Ivehearditbothways · 16/09/2024 07:59

Is it on audible? You can return them easily and for any reason, just pick one of the options. I think one of them is actually that you have an issue with the narrations. Really not sure why you’ve started a thread on this. Do you often need help with such insignificant total non events?

You don’t want it audiobook so return the audiobook. Very strange.

Depends how you bought it and where from. I’ve returned a book via audible because the narrator was awful, but I’ve also been unable to return a book because it wasn’t bought with a credit (I think).

You can return books you bought using money instead of a credit. The only reason books aren’t eligible for return is if you’ve returned too many over a short period of time or you’ve had it for too long. (You do have to speak to their customer service if you want to return a paid for book but I did when the book had a bunch of static half way through. It was eventually removed from the site - maybe that’s why they allowed the cash payment return as it was a faulty sound issue).

MasterShardlake · 16/09/2024 08:04

next time listen to a sample.
I've only returned an audio book once, after just reading a few chapters, and got a refund so it's allowed. Presumably there are restrictions on how often it can be done to stop people taking the piss.

sunshineandshowers40 · 16/09/2024 08:07

Very easy to return books via audible.

jamtarty · 16/09/2024 08:07

Surprised people are saying it’s only possible if you paid cash. If you’re an Audible member you can return books bought with credits can’t you? I thought that was one of the main reasons to be a member.

I’ve returned books because of the narrator before. The sample won’t always give you a true idea.

Whenever I have returned Audible books it has only been possible if I paid for them with a credit.

You said “You can return books you bought using money instead of a credit”. Sorry I misunderstood your post and thought you meant only those and not ones bought with a credit.

Ok, so I'm obviously dim, but how do you return books on audible. I've clicked on the book and can't see an option...!

Go to your account and then your purchase history and you’ll see all your books. They’ll be a little button saying “return title” and you just click on it. Some will say “not eligible for return” but if you have a genuine reason then their customer service is often very helpful and might allow it. They won’t if you just don’t like the book though and it’s been too long etc.

TiredTiredTiredTiredBloodySoddingTired · 16/09/2024 08:12

Ah, cross posted, thank you @jamtarty

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 16/09/2024 08:13

Yeah, you can return them if you don't like the narration. I've done that before.

TiredTiredTiredTiredBloodySoddingTired · 16/09/2024 08:14

Ha! Well thar was easy. All done and got a credit back.
And it's only 8.15am.
Today is going to be a good day!

Was there any need to be so rude and snidey? Like honestly what do you get out of it? You don't think it's "strange" at all, you just wanted to have a nasty little dig at the OP.

If you think a thread is stupid and pointless just don't respond, there's no need at all to be so fucking patronising. A couple of people obviously didn't know it was a thing and have now learned something, so it's not a pointless thread at all. It's Monday morning. Chill thy beans.

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 16/09/2024 08:22

Yes you can return for this reason. I returned the third of the Richard Osman series for that reason. I read the first two and the narrator just jarred with my view of the characters.

Ivehearditbothways · 16/09/2024 08:28

@MonsteraMama

I’d understand if this was a question that wasn’t easily answered by looking on her audible account or google, but it is. There is literally an option to return because you don’t like the narration. So why ask if that’s allowed? Can people not google “audible return” and follow the links?

The issue with threads like this is people lose all ability to problem solve and think for themselves. Starting a mumsnet thread to ask permission to return something, when the options are right in front of you? It is odd.

jazzhands84 · 16/09/2024 08:33

If you like audio books it might be worth checking to see if your library offers BorrowBox or Libby apps. You can have multiple free loans and chuck them back if you don't like the narrator. I'm currently enjoying the new Anthony Horowitz and it's rather good, should anyone care.

BigOnBooks · 16/09/2024 09:00

Thank you for the helpful messages. I've now returned the title.

@Ivehearditbothways I don't think starting this thread was odd at all. Your responses are a little bizarre though!

Ah come on now don't be a meanie

I didn't know for years that I could return an audible purchase either and I promise in (most) other aspects of life I'm fully functional 😂

So could you have not just said "check the Audible returns page on your account" instead of being rude and condescending? Genuinely, what did you get out of answering the question like a cunt instead of either just answering it or ignoring it? Does it make you happy? Feel good about yourself? Boost your ego because you're just so much cleverer than everyone else? What's the point?

Threads like this are the thing people might find when they Google the question as you so sagely suggest. It would have cost you nothing to just answer it like a normal person, or to go away and be a dickhead somewhere else if you find people asking questions so egregious.

Wow, I had no idea I could return a book on audible so thanks for starting the thread @BigOnBooks.

I've just gone and returned one where I hate the narration but it didn't even ask me for a reason.
