He used all the sugar

AIBU to be raging? (Slightly lighthearted post, but only very slightly)

Got up this morning to make myself a coffee, quite literally my favourite time of day is when I get to sit down and take that first sip.

Anyway, I open the pot or sugar and it seems my teenage son has used it all and not told me we need to buy more 😫

AIBU to be raging? I have absolutely no idea how many cups of tea he drank yesterday or frankly how much sugar he must have used because I didn't notice it being low when I made my coffee yesterday morning.

The shop doesn't open until 9am so now I'm coffee-less and annoyed 🙄

That is the worst! Do you have any caster sugar, brown sugar or even icing sugar you can use instead?

Bippityboppityboo67 · 15/09/2024 08:22

Sk you have any for baking? Castor or icing sugar? Will work the same

pictoosh · 15/09/2024 08:24

Yanbu. It comes from the fact that he's not the one doing the shopping. Thinks the sugar tin refills itself.
Maddening.

thereiscustardinthejamtart · 15/09/2024 08:26

Do you have honey? Much nicer than sugar in coffee.

Then make your son walk to the shop 😈

TealTraybake · 15/09/2024 08:27

Ohhh like the other week. I came downstairs for my frothy milky coffee in the morning, in my favourite mug. No milk left. Husband had used it all eating late night cereal. Devastated!

MyKidsAreTooNoisy · 15/09/2024 08:28

Already several replies and no one has yet castigated you for having sugar in coffee. I’m shocked. Anyway wake up you son and get him to go to the shop (he can wait outside til it opens)

MotherOfABoobAddict · 15/09/2024 08:28

Sugar in hot drinks is the absolute worst for your teeth. You're an adult so it's up to you what you do with your own body but I absolutely would not be letting a teenager drink hot drinks with sugar in, especially multiple times a day.

Make him go when it opens! Not unreasonable, I hate moments like this.

I'm more surprised there isn't any comment upon why a teenager is permitted to have tea due to the scraps of caffeine in it.

Must be too early for them.

Bingo!

I said it's up to her what she does with her own body but her child doesn't understand the consequences of his own actions yet. He'll regret it when his teeth are full of holes.

Avatartar · 15/09/2024 08:32

Oh no! Secret stash of sugar lumps in your bedroom is the only answer in case there’s a next time

Overcover · 15/09/2024 08:33

I don't understand drams like this. Whybis the sugar in the "pot" the only sugar in the house. I always have the pot plus an unopened bag. The same applies for anything with a long shelf life. The one in use and a spare. It just makes life smoother, no last minute trips to the shop for anything.

If he's only been using in for drinks (not baking) it must have been lowish yesterday.

I’ve drank tea with sugar for 40 years and my teeth are great. Pretty sure my 17 year old will be fine (and can make his own decision about it).

EDIT for autocorrect

Sugarfreerage · 15/09/2024 08:38

I definitely let him know (at least once per week) about the havoc high sugar/tea consumption will wreak on his teeth, but he's almost 16 and short of hiding the sugar when I'm not home I can't really do much more than try to educate him. Thankfully it's cups of tea and not crack cocaine.

He's sixteen - how do you propose she stops him?

Sugarfreerage · 15/09/2024 08:40

I'm considering the honey suggestion, although DP has just popped his head in and said he will go to the shop when it opens.

My coffee is in sight 😂🥳

Don't be daft. He's 16.

How are you going to stop him?

So talk us through how you would stop him?

You see your 16 year old putting sugar in his tea. What happens next?

I think we could use your advice.
