I'm considering this ring but with an aquamarine stone instead. Do people think this will work? Is it to over the top?

I don’t wear much jewellery so am very lost!

It will be on your hand everyday so you choose something you like, what anyone else thinks isn't really of importance! Your hand! Your ring! Your choice! :)

Fraaahnces · 15/09/2024 03:31

I love them both… I’m especially partial to aquamarines so the one on the right is my favourite. They’re both utterly beautiful. Congratulations!!!

autienotnaughty · 15/09/2024 03:31

I love it not over the top at all

Polyp0 · 15/09/2024 03:33

Do you like them? They're quite statement if you're not sure.

MayaPinion · 15/09/2024 04:23

I like the sapphire better, but both are lovely and a great change from the ubiquitous diamond solitaire in white gold/platinum (of which I am an owner, but if I did it again it would def be something much more exciting.

babyproblems · 15/09/2024 04:27

I like the sapphire one too like pp. Congrats!

MereDintofPandiculation · 15/09/2024 05:34

An engagement ring will get a lot of wear. I would seriously consider hardness of stone and whether you mind it getting scratched and worn down. Aquamarine is not as tough as diamond, sapphire or ruby, but tougher than garnet or opal.

Dreamskies · 15/09/2024 05:37

If you don’t wear jewellery much then that’s way too big. I used to wear rings quite a lot and the ones that did my head in were the ones that protruded too much. They catch on EVERYTHING.

TinyYellow · 15/09/2024 05:50

Lovely rings but both very big. Do you want to be able to wear it every day? I’d be worried about scratching people with a ring with sharp edges, but you might have a job where that isn’t as much of a concern.

My thoughts exactly. Congratulations OP!

This is exactly what I was going to say. Mine didn't even stick out half as much but the fucker still caught on everything in sight😂

AhBiscuits · 15/09/2024 06:00

Not to my taste. But that's fine, because I won't be wearing it. If you love it then get it.

Dogstar78 · 15/09/2024 06:14

Congratulations. If you don't wear a lot of jewellery you'll not appreciate how annoying that ring will be. It will catch on everything. My friend has a ring like this and it drives her mad. It's not a style I would pick and the setting doesn't look very refined and it seems set quite high which adds to the 'catchyness'.

I love sapphires so I would pursue your thought process on this, just maybe not that ring. Personally, I think something smaller amd better quality, always looks classier and more timeless, even if you went for the same sort of cluster style.

MrsToothyBitch · 15/09/2024 07:05

I prefer the sapphire but both are gorgeous. If you like it, then go for it.

ChiefEverythingOfficer · 15/09/2024 07:13

I have an aquamarine pendant and the stone has worn terribly. It's dull & scratched.

Just a thought.

Bestyearever2024 · 15/09/2024 07:16

Pretty as a dress ring

For me I think something ''clean" and simple for an engagement ring ....solitaire diamond every time

TiredCatLady · 15/09/2024 07:16

First: congratulations!

As others have said, a ring that size and design will catch on everything - hair, clothes, random things you don’t expect. And with the tendency to catch on everything comes the increased risk of damage and stone loss. It’ll drive you nuts if you’re not used to wearing jewellery and will potentially end up sat in your jewellery box.

As you’re going for a coloured stone, check if it has been chemically or heat enhanced - some treatments can wear over time and the stone change its appearance.

BarbaraHoward · 15/09/2024 07:17

I think it would be gorgeous, but yes perhaps get stuck on stuff a lot and I'd be wary of the aquamarine not being strong enough to wear day in day out for decades.

Would you wear it every day or just when you're dressing up a bit?

TemuSpecialBuy · 15/09/2024 07:18

ultimately if you love it go for it

i strongly prefer the second ring on the little finger assuming both are sapphires.

mine is way less raised/ pronounced than that and the prongs do still catch on things mostly fabric I find fluff on prongs frequently.
maintenance is going to be £ and you’ll want good insurance.

I believe aquamarine is softer / easy to damage so you’ll need to take a lot more care

TigerLoaf · 15/09/2024 07:20

Congratulations on your engagement.

The rings are beautiful but I think a sapphire would be a better choice. Have a look at a lighter sapphire. Ceylon Sapphires are pale and I think would sit beautifully like this one.

bergamotorange · 15/09/2024 07:20

It is objectively quite large and quite ornate. The question is whether that is right for you.

Some people have pared-back, some have simple, some have larger/more ornate, some have oversized/unusual designs.

What is your style?

If you love it, it is absolutely fine. And congrats!

CantConfessWontConfess · 15/09/2024 07:22

Its beautiful but not practical, depends if that bothers you?

RuthW · 15/09/2024 07:41

Aquamarines need cleaning a lot. Most of the time they look like dirty diamonds. (Personal experience )

polydactylfeline · 15/09/2024 07:55

I love them both- as previous posters have said, you go with what you love as it'll be on your hand every day - the aquamarine looks stunning 👌

exprecis · 15/09/2024 07:58

I really like it but I am someone who wears their engagement ring only for special occasions but every day
