I'm considering this ring but with an aquamarine stone instead. Do people think this will work? Is it to over the top?

I don’t wear much jewellery so am very lost!

Think they're both stunning! Practically I agree with others they will snag on everything if you're wearing every day that might become annoying.

Not an everyday ring imho, more a dress ring for special occasions. Think about practicality - do you want to wear it everyday?

yeshimabet · 15/09/2024 08:08

Every piece of clothing you own will be snagged!

They look like 'cocktail rings' rather than engagement rings.

Too big if you are wanting to wear it for every day. Also, check it with a wedding ring on too. It's probably too big to sit together nicely on your finger. A trilogy or even 5 stones would be more practical for everyday wear (if that's what you want)

If you’re having to ask it’s probably not the one for you. IMO they’re both just slightly too big, I’d need to take it down about a quarter or third of the size for everyday wear. If you’re going that big then I’d go less fussy - see Diana/Kate Middleton’s ring, massive but simple. Sorry but you did ask for opinions 😅 they’re beautiful but not very engagementy - doesn’t have to be a diamond solitaire (doesn’t have to be anything of course) but these just look a bit ballgown-y for everyday wear.

@NeedingAGoodNap i love both, but what’s most important is what you love. Like you I don’t wear much jewellery but have absolutely loved my statement engagement ring since DH popped it on my finger years ago! Yes you can get fluff in the prongs, no it doesn’t get caught on everything, no my clothing isn’t snagged left right and centre. It’s lovely to have something different from the same old diamonds that 80% of people seem to have too. PP make excellent points about checking the hardness of aquamarine if you’re wearing every day.

A visual feast!
And unfortunately a clothes-snagging, thread-catching, scratch-causing pain in the bum.

If that doesn't bother you, it's beautiful. Not my thing...but understand why you love it.

NeedingAGoodNap · 16/09/2024 09:20

Thanks for your help everyone! Some good points have been raised. I am very set on having an aquamarine. The lighter blue sapphires are just no the same sadly! I absolutely love the design but am going to look at some more options.

I’m worried about it being too hard to wear day to day. It would be fine for work - I am a software engineer so I spend all day typing. But I worry about the snagging on clothes and getting stuck in my curly hair! Plus running around with my 4 year old daughter it might be prone to damage.

The stones are beautiful if a little large. For a worn everyday engagement ring I would recommend a rub over or channel set ring. That way it won't catch or scratch. Congratulations. 💐
