I don't really know what it is. But no, I don't think there's any form of make-up or clothing that automatically becomes unacceptable at any age.

Catza · 10/09/2024 21:42

I always find these statements rubbish. So the day before my 40th birthday I can go out with the girls wearing smoky eyes and at midnight... I turn into a pumpkin?
And who decides whether or not I can "pull it off"? Is there a judge panel or something?
I love smoky eyes, I feel good wearing smoky eyes. If someone decides I can't pull it off, they can get stuffed.

honeyfox · 10/09/2024 21:44

I often get compliments on my smoky eye makeup and I'm over 40. Not planning to change it anytime soon and don't believe in banning things for certain ages.

PandaWorld · 10/09/2024 21:45

I think it's ridiculous too by the way but someone on my FB account was discussing it earlier and I wondered if others thought the same as it's depressing if so.

I wouldn't bother repeating it as its a load of nonsense

Were they terribly young and one of those people who think we all get issued with a Zimmer frame on our 40th birthday?

PandaWorld · 10/09/2024 21:50

No, she is 42 so definitely not a young woman

42 is young!

Winona Ryder begs to differ.

RedheadedSoulStealer · 10/09/2024 21:59

I think a cool toned smokey eye using blues, blacks and greys can be quite harsh and aging on an older face. So can very heavy black eyeliner, especially in the waterline.

Browns, bronzes and other warmer tones can be beautiful.

But both can look bad or great depending in the person.

These are just my observations.

FlingThatCarrot · 10/09/2024 22:00

Disagree but I do think the majority over older women suit a different smokey eye to the majority of younger women.

Eye shape changes/ skin sags. You just need to adjust a few things for it to look just as good. I loved a smokey eye at 16 and 20 years later I still do but I put the shadows and highlights in different places. Eyeliner slightly different.

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 10/09/2024 22:02

Who cares what other people think about what you can or can't pull off? You can't live that way.

BleedingMeDry · 10/09/2024 22:03

No one knows my age (45) but I can turn heads. I’m not a classic beauty but I am striking, and I got rizz. I’ll wear what looks good until it doesn’t.

Just for fun, I give you:

No I do not agree with this. Smoky eyes look great if done right. But I do think less is more.

Cattery · 10/09/2024 22:21

I do. I’m old. I don’t bloody care

ThatTealViewer · 10/09/2024 22:28

58, 54, and 66. 😒

So, no. I don’t agree.

Bullshit. Not an age thing: some ppl never suit the look & others can rock it all their lives.

Thedogscollar · 10/09/2024 22:33

As Charlotte Tilbury would say, Darling YABVVU😉

RebeccaDecember · 10/09/2024 22:38

I couldn’t pull it off at 21.. the “Smokey eye look” has always been more of a “black eye look” for me 😂

If it makes you feel good at any age though, I’d say wear it and nuts to what anyone else thinks..

‘Claimed 85’ made me laugh quite loudly and almost wake my baby. 🤣

Tomatina · 10/09/2024 23:06

It depends entirely on the shape of your eyes and eyelids, not age. It looked stupid on me at 20 and would look equally stupid now because I don't have enough eyelid space, if you see what I mean. Also if you have deep-set eyes then smoky eye makeup will just make your eyes look smaller or as if they have disappeared into dark hollows.

StormingNorman · 10/09/2024 23:07

Who’s going to tell Charlotte Tilbury?

but most women don't look like this....gorgeous big eyes and great bone structure , regardless of age.
