I am sick of the ageist bullshit some people come out with. (Always aimed at women too, never men!) Who said this @PandaWorld ??? Women of ANY age can do smoky.

I can pull it off. It's heavy foundation that I can't make work anymore. But if you've got the eye shape for heavy eyeshadow and winged eyeliner, it doesn't matter how old you are.

I’m 64 and I still do a Smokey eye occasionally.

I do it at 61 and often get compliments on my make up. I'll also do bright colours, rainbows, all sorts. It's fun!

The ‘and’ was an ‘and what’s your point’? Still unclear as to the relevance of most women not looking like Halle Berry. The OP asked if we agreed that ‘no woman over 40 could pull it off’, not ‘no woman over 40 unless she’s really pretty and a smoky eye suits her’.

I'm as old as Moses and like a Smokey eye look. The only thing I do differently is I use a dark brown eyeliner rather than black which can look a little harsh.

Aw no! I'm sure they're not piggy but some eyes don't suit eyeliner and the trimmings.

I can't wear lipstick. My bottom lip looks like a slab of tuna with lipstick.

It depends on skin tone, eye shape, size and colour and overall look. It looks better on Joan Collins that it would on a young fresh faced woman with light hair and eyes, where it would be overpowering. However we all know that women over 40 can't pull off anything at all because it's always going to be both aging and trying to be young. So I suggest we'd all be better getting masks made of our 20s faces and wearing them when we go out to avoid causing distress to the general public.

I think it's a ridiculous blanket statement tbh - I don't wear any make up at all, but it's up to the individual what they wear and what they think they can 'pull off' or not.

Yeah as soon as someone turns 40 smokey eyes just look hideous.

I think a lot of women 40+ look better than ever in that most know what they like, know what makes them feel confident (if that's make up or make up free- either way) and aren't as bothered about feeling like they have to conform to x, y or z. If that's a smokey eye then great! Lots of people have a weird view of women ageing.
