Tinned hotdogs at school

Hotdogsarevile · 10/09/2024 21:18

I picked my girls up from after school club today. They were a total nightmare, hyper, wouldn’t listen. Even caught them putting thick paint marker pens onto the rug in the playroom. They’ve never ever done anything like this before. I drill into them that pens belong on paper. They’ve had their pens removed now for 3 days (they’re 6 year old - twins)

When I picked them up from school the after school club staff member said they they’d had hot dogs for snack. The girls started laughing saying that they were all pink and floppy 😳

I absolutely hate tinned hot dogs with a passion. I’m sure it’s one of the reasons they were so hyper.

Would I be unreasonable to ask for them to be given a vegetarian alternative (not asking for something to be made specially but surely they must cater for veggies)

The list of ingredients makes me feel physically sick. I had them when we were kids, along with the packet dried onions you added to the brine 🤢

I pay £10 for each child for after school club (I am aware that people pay much more than this) but part of the selling point is that they get given a healthy snack - last week it was yogurt & grapes - absolutely fine

so

YANBU - hot dogs are the food of the devil

YABU - they enjoyed them let them eat them it’s not like they eat them every day

I bloody love a hotdog.....and yes I know what's in them!

Hotdogsarevile · 10/09/2024 21:26

I was a kid in the 80’s and we had them all the time but the thought of eating one now makes me nauseas 🤢

EVHead · 10/09/2024 21:29

DD used to think they were cow’s udders and now I can’t look at one without heaving. 🤢

NeverDropYourMooncup · 10/09/2024 21:32

You know there's a sizeable chance that demanding a vegetarian alternative when they aren't vegetarian could well mean they will either miss out on what the other kids are enjoying - or they'll just get vegetarian hotdogs instead?

Hotdogsarevile · 10/09/2024 21:33

Who said anything about demanding?

They're all teeth, tits and testicles.

However, if your children were being brattish, they were being brattish.

You aint blaming hotdogs for that 🤣🤣

DeliciousApples · 10/09/2024 21:35

I love a nice hotdog.

Yeah they are full of crap but so is haggis or regular sausages or anything that's made of mashed up bits and bobs.

It would depend how often they got them whether or not I'd complain. The odd meal of crap isn't the end of the world but daily would be. Keep an eye on the menu and then decide how to proceed.

It’s worth a try 😂😂

I don't think tinned hotdogs make people hyperactive, I think they were just being naughty.

That said, I wouldn't want my children to eat those things.

We don’t get a menu for after school club unfortunately, we just get told what they’ve had

I would be really upset if my kids were fed this crap.
Let alone that I was paying for the privilege!

leopardski · 10/09/2024 21:39

The veggie alternative at our after school club this week was mini cheddars 🤣 it’s always really just supposed to be an easy snack to fill up a small kid - just keep their dinner nice and healthy once they’re home and think no more of it.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 10/09/2024 21:41

Those hotdogs are fucking awful.
No place should be serving them, let alone to children.

They are disgusting!!

Anyway, I voted yanbu. If also suggest they don't serve the shortest quality in the future.

Haggis is offal. It's not just any old crap!

Some sausages are but good quality sausages are just meat? I don't know what you're on about.

So these are the ingredients for a tin of hotdogs from Asda

I've heard it all now. Hotdogs making children hyper. Brilliant!

LoveBluey · 10/09/2024 21:45

Up to you if you want them eating hotdogs or not but I reckon they were just overtired from the start of term and a long day at school and after school club.

GrazingSheep · 10/09/2024 21:45

I wouldn’t eat them and I would not want my children eating them either.

yellowroses78 · 10/09/2024 21:47

Genuinely curious. How does ultra processed meat make people hyperactive?

AGirlInACountrySong · 10/09/2024 21:47

Smoke flavour

Interesting!

I’m sure you’re right. My visceral hatred of hot dogs is clearly clouding my judgement.

sometimes they’re just overtired shits and it’s as simple as that 😂

You know that you are paying for the childcare and the snack so happens to be included.
Hot dogs are not making your children hyper but it is a low quality food. The food at after school clubs is so hit and miss, I never really understood how some of what mine came out with was classed as a snack 😂 it was all so random!

Totally agree, sometimes the kitchen has left over pizza so that’s what they have, other times it’s Beans on toast, wraps or sandwiches. I’m so happy with all of those - it bloody hotdogs grrrrrrr

My kids had hotdogs for tea at home 😂 it's what they asked for. We're an everything in moderation household

Pital · 10/09/2024 21:51

They're not badly behaved because of a hotdog, and they're not feeding them it several days a week, its an irregular treat, calm down.
