My claustrophobic brain is screaming 😱

BruceAndNosh · 04/09/2024 22:39

The views are a bit rubbish, but the upside is no noisy neighbours

winewolfhowls · 04/09/2024 22:39

This is amazing!

Recommend people interested in this go to the secret nuclear bunker (signposted from the M6!), it's a museum recreating a cold war bunker.

Same!! It's hideous! The log burner venting outside to let in nuclear fallout is especially spectacular: all of the contents are included so the red landline phone is so you can call other bunkers is a special touch:

However my favourite is the asbestos fire blanket

Omg this is the best Rightmove link I've seen on here

MontagueMoo · 04/09/2024 22:43

I grew up with one of these outside my village! We used to get into it as kids (1990s), but it was rather differently decorated... It did still have a fair bit of stuff in though, and there was an abandoned brick building not far away that was the same. I think they must have been built at the same time. It was odd they were just abandoned like that.

You haven’t seen the pirate ship in Whitby then?

I had a thing for Cold War bunkers a while ago, there’s a whole website dedicated to their locations and descriptions. Amazing stuff!

I live in a rural area, there’s one in the middle of nowhere that still has yearly MOD inspections!

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 04/09/2024 22:49

I find it odd them photoing the bunkers book as a highlight. Not like it's an architectural feature. Think I would rather face the nucleus apocalypse than live in this.

RosiePosiee · 04/09/2024 22:49

@McLeodIsPronouncedMcloud pirate ship??

I need the pirate ship link 😄

MysteriousUsername · 04/09/2024 22:53

One fairly local to me has a restored one and does open days, so I've been down and had a look round. Fascinating if you're into the history of that sort of thing.

Much as it was an interesting visit I would draw the line at sleeping in one. I'd worry the lid would get stuck and I'd be trapped forever!

RosiePosiee · 04/09/2024 23:08

McLeodIsPronouncedMcloud · 04/09/2024 22:56

Ship

Sorry, not a pirate ship but a replica of The Endeavour.

That's spectacular

After Bayesian I’m thinking no.

Mirabai · 04/09/2024 23:17

The sex bunker would def work as an Airbnb experience.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 04/09/2024 23:30

That picture is not Hiroshima, that’s a French nuclear test at Mururoa Atoll in Polynesia.

OrwellianTimes · 04/09/2024 23:33

What on earth do you do if someone’s eaten all the baked beans? It’ll honk in there.

tolerable · 04/09/2024 23:52

the curtains are an ironic touch...given location.guaranteed snapped up n coolstays\air b+b?

BruceAndNosh · 05/09/2024 01:28

There's no loo and I don't fancy trying to carry a full chamber pot up that metal ladder

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 05/09/2024 01:50

Genuine question though - for someone who was homeless or someone who was desperate to leave home - and who would access toilets/showers etc elsewhere, would they/could they actually use it for sleeping/shelter?
Has it passed health and safety? Does it have an active landline?
The mind boggles, truly.

There's quite a few of these scattered around the country. There's one in York you can visit also

DogCEO · 05/09/2024 02:32

I like what they've done with the place. 🤣
