To find This Morning utterly cringe?

It’s ages since I’ve caught it, but am on my lunch break early. It makes really uncomfortable TV watching. Cat and Ben going awkwardly from some god awful game show game a cardboard back drop to trying to do journalism ( badly) by interviewing a former police officer about serial killers. I thought Holly was bad, but it’s no better with Cat and Ben. Wonder what the viewing figures are like?

Overbearingndn · 04/09/2024 12:26

What would you like to see?

LlynTegid · 04/09/2024 12:28

I avoid it, should have been taken off air a long time ago. Past its sell by date.

EveryKneeShallBow · 04/09/2024 12:29

It’s always been awful. My friends and I used to joke when we were on maternity leave that it was rotting our brains. That was back in the nineties and I haven’t watched it since. Sounds like it hasn’t improved.

CatsForLife · 04/09/2024 12:33

@Overbearingndn Are you a producer there? lol. The tone is wrong. Seems to take itself very seriously but then the presenters look too formal during the “fun” bits and like they are watching Netflix during the “serious” bits. Loose Women is utter tut but even that isn’t as cringe even though they dart between the light and serious.

Most day time tv is absolute drivel.

No, I'm just wondering what you want to see on a morning show. This Morning has been going for years and seems to have followed the same format, just with different presenters. Perhaps it needs a shake up.

Alltoowell10minuteversion · 04/09/2024 12:38

I felt like that about it 25 years ago - I’m amazed it’s still even on. Who’s it targeted at? I can’t imagine who wants to watch that sort of show anymore, it’s so dated. I also loathe Loose Women with a passion - they make me embarrassed to be a woman tbh.

CatsForLife · 04/09/2024 12:42

Well it’s a double daytime whammy really isn’t it - This Morning followed by Loose Women? I was so clenched when I caught it. The BBC version (Morning live?!) seems to be a bit better. Those Saturday Kitchen cooking shows do daytime ok. Cat Deeley has the look of someone who’d rather be somewhere else. I’ve always rated her so not sure why she jumped aboard a sinking ship.

Pulp cheap TV at its best,

We got rid of out TV 20 years ago and haven't looked back.

DiscoBeat · 04/09/2024 12:54

I don't switch on the TV in the morning except for the news, briefly. Daytime TV is all a lot of rubbish!

CatsForLife · 04/09/2024 12:56

Maybe I’m just out of the daytime loop. I wouldn’t normally see it. I was quite shocked.

OP posts:
ssd · 04/09/2024 12:57

I noticed cat deeley looked exceptionally thin last time i seen it. I was a bit shocked.

Otherwise you are right op, it is cringy.

LadyKenya · 04/09/2024 13:00

It really is rubbish. The presenters seem to treat the viewers like teenagers, and I find some of them rather irritating. I just watch the news instead.

the80sweregreat · 04/09/2024 13:01

Most daytime programmes are rubbish and full of fillers and presenters who seem to be paid a lot to do very little.
I liked Richard and Judy as they were proper journalists and good interviewers, anyone that came after them I've switched off.
The one who told a white lie about her gastric band and weight loss , Phil and Holly revelations, Fred the child molester ( weather man) it's been a bit cursed that show really.

Turnitoffnonagain · 04/09/2024 13:05

I cannot watch Cat and Ben, really cringy. The only presenters I have liked lately are Craig Doyle and Josie Gibson.
Alison Hammond also grates nowadays.

Weird brag but you do you as the kids say. Just to pry though, by getting rid of the TV you do actually mean you don’t watch any sort of visual media at all right? Otherwise it’s a bit of an irrelevant brag, in today’s world the box in the living room is only one of many ways to watch whatever takes your fancy.

As for the op, TM has always been formulaic background noise. It’s a bit like watching Newsround and complaining it’s not got the serious nature of Newsnight. I don’t find anything on ITV to my taste to be honest but evidently as a channel it’s reaching enough of an audience share with the programming it provides, not for me to judge or care what others enjoy. I am glad Jeremy Kyle is no longer a ‘thing’ though, was nasty at the time and what keeps coming out since it was cancelled is heartbreaking.

Tattletwat · 04/09/2024 13:11

Itv is probably the worst out of the terrestrial Channels.

You have Good morning Britain which purports to be a news program, which seems to be presented by the worst presenters on TV and I wouldn't even even call it news, you then have this morning as above, then loose women.

That's just the morning, apart from odd drama ITV just produced a utter shit using the same group of presenters who are shit.

simpledeer · 04/09/2024 13:12

I like Josie Gibson and Alison Hammond. Also like Rylan and Dermott.

Ben Shepherd isn’t quite right, but Cat Deely is absolutely excruciatingly bad bless her. I think it’s just the wrong job/vehicle for her, she seems so uncomfortable and unnatural.

I only watch it if she’s not on tbh.

Solonga · 04/09/2024 13:16

I liked Josie and Rylan best, also Craig, Dermot is OK,

Why is it a brag? There is genuinely nothing worth watching on live TV? If you disagree and enjoy Channel 4 drama and daytime TV, that's fine. We don't.
We have a cinema down the road and a pub where we go to watch F1.
You may note that 20 years ago there were no subscription services. We coped nonetheless. I am not suggesting everyone does that so no need to get your knickers in a twist over it.

The op mentions one program that they don’t enjoy and someone like yourself always comes along to smugly announce they live tv free like it’s some sort of accomplishment. And by 15 years ago there were plenty of streaming options, many people gave up on tv as social media and YouTube grew in the late 2000s. We’re actually coming about around to people being fed up of too many rubbish options over many services again just like the ‘300 channels of nothing to watch’ era of the 2000s.

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 04/09/2024 13:42

How do you know this if you don’t have one?

FlamingoCup · 04/09/2024 13:49

Daytime TV is the reason I work.
