It’s ages since I’ve caught it, but am on my lunch break early. It makes really uncomfortable TV watching. Cat and Ben going awkwardly from some god awful game show game a cardboard back drop to trying to do journalism ( badly) by interviewing a former police officer about serial killers. I thought Holly was bad, but it’s no better with Cat and Ben. Wonder what the viewing figures are like?

There is genuinely nothing worth watching on live TV?

How do you know this if you don’t have one?

Because 20 years ago there was the Morning show, Loose women and Homes under the hammer.. Today, there is the Morning Show, Loose Women, Homes under the Hammer...

The op mentions one program that they don’t enjoy and someone like yourself always comes along to smugly announce they live tv free like it’s some sort of accomplishment. And by 15 years ago there were plenty of streaming options, many people gave up on tv as social media and YouTube grew in the late 2000s. We’re actually coming about around to people being fed up of too many rubbish options over many services again just like the ‘300 channels of nothing to watch’ era of the 2000s.

I just made a comment about my personal situation. You chose to make far-reaching conclusions about my levels of smugness. That's on you, I'm afraid.

It’s always been awful. My friends and I used to joke when we were on maternity leave that it was rotting our brains. That was back in the nineties and I haven’t watched it since. Sounds like it hasn’t improved.

Agree. Dreadful, not thought provoking enough, too fluffy, dim conversations. I'll stick with Talk TV.

Other programmes are available…….

Normallynumb · 04/09/2024 15:01

I find it irritating fluff nowadays
I used to have it on it the background as I'm home most of the day,
I love Josie and Craig together, warm and witty but Craig is very empathetic during difficult interviews.
Cat just isn't and talks about herself at any opportunity.

I like Josie Gibson and Alison Hammond. Also like Rylan and Dermott.

Ben Shepherd isn’t quite right, but Cat Deely is absolutely excruciatingly bad bless her. I think it’s just the wrong job/vehicle for her, she seems so uncomfortable and unnatural.

I only watch it if she’s not on tbh.

I also like Alison, Dermot and Rylan. I can't take to Cat and I feel Ben is trying too hard. I tend to only see the first 45 minutes to an hour of it so can't judge entire show. I think that when two presenters such as Phil and Holly have been on for so long, it is a hard act to follow. I do tend to see the bit when they are discussing news items. When the hosts and regular guests are meeting together once a week they develop a rapport, at the moment it's like an awkward interviews rage where the hosts aren't sure how the guests will respond and sometimes it's boring because they all agree or it gets contentious and at the moment Ben and Cat done have the experience of knowing when to cut in. I would give them another 6 months. If they haven't gelled by then one of them should go, preferably Cat.

Most daytime programmes are rubbish and full of fillers and presenters who seem to be paid a lot to do very little.
I liked Richard and Judy as they were proper journalists and good interviewers, anyone that came after them I've switched off.
The one who told a white lie about her gastric band and weight loss , Phil and Holly revelations, Fred the child molester ( weather man) it's been a bit cursed that show really.

Wait, Fred was a child molester? I haven't watched for many years, but used to look forward to the weather forecast, mostly because there was the off-chance he would fall in when jumping over to Ireland.

Pebble Mill was BBC.

Moier · 04/09/2024 15:14

It's those two presenters.. they are hopeless. Cats mannerisim is all wrong.. she's got bad habits with pushing her hair back and screwing up her hands.
They had better ones on in the summer hols.
Josie Gibson is brilliant especially when she presents with Rylan.

Ooh, Pebble Mill at One. I had forgotten about that.

TheDandyLion · 04/09/2024 15:16

The competition to win your gas & electric bills to be paid was a particularly low point.

CatsForLife · 04/09/2024 15:32

Yes maybe it is the presenters. I found it embarrassing. Definite wrong vehicle for Cat as pp said.

OP posts:
ILikeItWhatIsIt · 04/09/2024 17:16

They had a segment on the other day that consisted of people phoning in to say what they did on their holidays. I lasted about three minutes before I wanted to put my foot through the telly. Utter shite.

Solonga · 04/09/2024 17:26

Ben is ok but he looks too much like Lineker with that beard

EscapingTheseFeelings · 04/09/2024 17:30

I don’t like Cat at all, she’s very insincere and meh. I caught a bit of an episode after she and Ben started and had to switch it off.

I only watch it if it’s Alison/Josie and Dermot now, it’s a shame they weren’t the replacement full time for Phil and Holly.

GigiAnnna · 04/09/2024 17:32

I hate it. I find it boring and patronising. I've not watched it properly in about 5 years.

Icecreamandcoffee · 04/09/2024 18:55

I think ITV needs a bit daytime shake up and some new shows brought in. This morning feels very dated nowadays. I'm pretty sure a sizeable amount of their morning viewing figures is because it seems to be the channel of choice for hospital, GP and dentist waiting rooms. It also seems to be the channel of choice for care homes, it seems to be on in every care home I've ever visited and I know when GMIL doesn't want to leave her room they put the telly on and its always ITV.

the80sweregreat · 04/09/2024 18:59

It's the banel chit chat and fashion items that made me roll my eyes once ( it was on in my late dad's care home constantly! I agree they seem to like it )
Promoting bags and clothes that were not that cheap and having phone ins where they pretend to care ! It's just filler isn't it

northernstars · 04/09/2024 19:06

Funnily enough I never see it but it was on in the hospital waiting room last week. They had a dog on that was running round the studio, once that settled they brought on a battery operated spider for a piece and it set the dog off again. 5 minutes!

Weird brag but you do you as the kids say. Just to pry though, by getting rid of the TV you do actually mean you don’t watch any sort of visual media at all right? Otherwise it’s a bit of an irrelevant brag, in today’s world the box in the living room is only one of many ways to watch whatever takes your fancy.

As for the op, TM has always been formulaic background noise. It’s a bit like watching Newsround and complaining it’s not got the serious nature of Newsnight. I don’t find anything on ITV to my taste to be honest but evidently as a channel it’s reaching enough of an audience share with the programming it provides, not for me to judge or care what others enjoy. I am glad Jeremy Kyle is no longer a ‘thing’ though, was nasty at the time and what keeps coming out since it was cancelled is heartbreaking.

My gosh! You’ve hit the nail on the head. It’s a weird flex claiming no tv when you are completely right, I have one tv and haven’t switched the thing on for anything but CBBC in years.

I consume a lot of Netflix / prime / Disney though. But I could get rid of the tv and boast no terrestrial 😂

Dunnoburt · 04/09/2024 19:11

Yanbu......is Alison Hammond still on it? With her complete lack of knowledge and empathy on every single subject!!.... not watched it "properly "since Richard and Judy and even then that was a naughty sicky off school 🤣

Funkyslippers · 04/09/2024 19:55

I saw the First Aid segment this week and Cat was giggling & being silly through some of it when it's obviously a serious subject. Very juvenile.

I met Josie last year before she was a main presenter & chatted to her for about 15 mins. She said at the time she doesn't feel like a natural presenter. I told her I think she's very natural. My dd told me I was a "try-hard"!!

Yes he sure was. There's a very interesting documentary on him in a series called Faking It about criminals & their body language. I think it's on Prime & Quest Red
