Feel like a complete idiot, please make me feel better

I booked theatre tickets with my sister in August 2023 for January 2025.
I planned to take a holiday in January so booked the annual leave and then my colleague asked me if she could have that week so I moved it a week and then booked my holiday.
I just realised that I'm on holiday when we are supposed to be going to the theatre. The theatre is the Saturday night and my flight back isn't until Tuesday lunchtime.
My sister is going to be so angry with me and I feel like a complete idiot.

I did similar with Hamilton tickets years ago. It’s annoying but these things happen - is there anyone else that she could
go with?

Meadowfinch · 02/09/2024 23:56

Can't you change the theatre tickets. You have plenty of time. Have you spoken to the booking office?

JC03745 · 02/09/2024 23:57

I assume the options are:
-change the theatre date if possible
-change the holiday date if possible
-she goes with a friend or family member and you both book someone else together when you are both free?

Meditationgame · 02/09/2024 23:58

Ring the theatre and change the tickets.

Hernamewaslola22 · 03/09/2024 00:00

I hope we can change the date of the tickets. I've just been on the website and it looks like they do let you apply. I feel sick.

That's a bit of an over the top reaction 😳 surely your sister will understand you just made a mistake? If you can't change the tickets, you could give them to your sister and ask her if she wants to take a friend?

Hernamewaslola22 · 03/09/2024 00:13

She'll be really pissed off.

She sounds delightful.

Dreameeeerrr · 03/09/2024 00:33

She doesn't understand mistakes can happen no?

Flyhigher · 03/09/2024 00:35

I've got a sister like that. I hope you can change the tickets. Good luck.

amoreoamicizia · 03/09/2024 00:39

It sounds like you're bending over backwards to try and accommodate everyone (the colleague, your sister). Should you look out for yourself a bit more from now on? I mean, prioritise yourself a bit.

beautifullikearainbow · 03/09/2024 00:56

I think you’ll be fine to switch the tickets, even if you have to pay a small admin fee. Be kind to yourself and don’t stress. You’ve done something anyone could do including me!

Hernamewaslola22 · 03/09/2024 00:59

Thank you. I'm just really worried about her response.

I accidentally did this too! Felt absolutely sick and like a terrible friend. But she managed to get another friend to buy the ticket and doesn't seen to have hard feelings about it. Things move on and good people understand!

I would be too. I can’t chop and change my annual leave easily.
Either swap or someone else goes, all you can do is say I’m sorry, I’ve messed up. Don’t sit on it, spill the beans asap.

She hasn't needed to take annual leave...
Don't people understand that people make mistakes?

No I don't have form for making silly mistakes.
Yes I do have a calendar, I just missed this one.

Finnulafishface · 03/09/2024 08:47

Give yourself a break OP - yes people make mistakes all the time and forgot events and double book!

As a PP said, let your sister know ASAP - there’s nothing more you can do than that but for goodness sakes, be kinder to yourself!

Or sometimes people just make an error an it doesn’t make them “scatty”

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/09/2024 08:52

I hope you can change the dates, OP.

Dh and I once turned up for a concert at the Festival Hall, he’d booked it well in advance.
Only once there, we couldn’t find the venue where it was on. Asked staff - who asked to see tickets, and pointed out that we’d got the right date - but the wrong year! A whole year too early 😂

Candleabra · 03/09/2024 08:55

Some theatre tickets are quite flexible now. I changed some recently as we couldn’t go due to illness. I was pleasantly surprised as I expected to lose the money. Give the box office a ring and ask if you can change the dates.

Cornettoninja · 03/09/2024 08:58

Honestly, I can’t be arsed with people so inflexible that they’d go out of their way to make someone feel like shit over something like this, but she’s your sister so it’s more complex than just backing off a bit.

Don’t beat yourself up about it. If she wants to get her arse in her hand that’s on her, nothing is changed by either of you giving in to negativity. That said I would tell her the situation so she has chance to check that you’re not rebooking (fingers crossed you can) for a date she can’t do or prepare her that she may need to find someone else to go with. Or she could go on her own - wouldn’t phase me to go alone but I appreciate others can’t counter the thought.

I booked tickets with ATG forgetting that I’m going to be away. I emailed them and they changed easily, I think they was a small fee but it definitely wasn’t much. Do this well in advance though while tickets for other dates are still available.
Check dates and check with your sister and crack on.

I wouldnt be going anywhere with her if she's like that!
