Yes there are real problems out there, but come rant with me

Just bought DD new pack of play doh for her birthday, her best friend came round to play and she's mixed up all the play doh colours. Every single one. Every pot now looks like a Zap lolly (if you're old enough to remember).

Yes there are naturally more important things but please tell me this would irk you too.

YANBU. I guess they'll look like a Feast soon too.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/09/2024 15:48

That's the fate of all playdoh isn't it?

That's the fate of all playdoh isn't it?

Not on the first day of playing with it and not done maliciously as seems to be the case here.

I only let my kiddies have one colour at a time 😂😂

I think I need to adopt this strategy in the future 😂

I don’t really police how kids play. For you it may be the end of the world, for them it may be the most imaginative play. I couldn’t really get worked up over £10.
I have memories of pouring Lego from a teapot as a child. Blue was hot chocolate, brown was tea. When older, I used to glue Lego pieces together with leather straps to make platform shoes for a doll. Couldn’t give a damn that it is not how you are “supposed” to play with Lego. Luckily, my parents didn’t mind either.

I'm not a policing sort either, hence why it happened, I was just hoping it would last longer than a day before it looked like sludge (for them to enjoy, not me) 😂

Your Lego memories sound awesome.

Could it be that the friend didn’t realise what happens when you mix the colours. Of course it’s annoying on the very first day: it’s ruined

Newuser75 · 01/09/2024 18:36

Ooh I hate that! My son's friend used to do that whenever they came round!

fuffymeloncauli · 01/09/2024 18:37

They sell some with TWO COLOURS IN ONE POT

madness

Mixed Play-Doh colours is my visual equivalent to nails on a chalkboard.

My daughter just loved to invent new colours with hers and I can still hear the silent screaming in my head 20+ years later.

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 01/09/2024 18:44

I got grumpy earlier at this trend for packets of bacon where the rashers are all spread out rather than stacked, as it's much more of a faff to cut the fat off and chop them up. Beat that for a petty annoyance!

SlabsBabs · 01/09/2024 18:55

A 'friend' of mine used to come round and do the same thing, mindlessly smodge all the colours together until it was just a brown lump, she was in her 40s! It drove me nuts so the next time she started to do it I had to ask her stop. We're no longer friends- not for this reason.

Play dough it’s not for children.

it’s for responsible adults who can be trusted not to mix the colours.

I feel this travesty could have been avoided

I used to as well.

Can I have a self indulgent non-play doh related rant please??
Ugh. My brain won’t shut up.
Is it hormones? Should I go back on the pill even though I am over 40? Or is it just stress? Or should I stop ignoring all of my thoughts and think they might be telling me something? Sick of having no energy, sick of worrying about money. Sick of worrying about work and sick of feeling like there is no single person on this planet who really loves me deeply… apart from my beautiful child.
That’s my rant 😂

TruffleShuffles · 01/09/2024 21:21

It’s taken a few years but I’ve finally made peace with mixed play doh. It used to pain me to see my eldest mix it and I would hover over her ready to nip in whenever I saw two colours get too close but now with my second I just buy the cheap stuff and let them get on with it. We now have no single colour, every pot is a hideous mix of every colour invented.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 01/09/2024 21:27

I gave up on proper play doh and used to make it at home. A huge batch but only one colour. When it got manky, I'd chuck and let the kids choose the colour for the new batch.

Play doh is awful anyway. The smell.

redalex261 · 01/09/2024 22:33

Also, visiting child guests who DID NOT put the correctly coloured lid back on the matching felt pen - who are these little sods???

I think I may need to embrace it too and just accept our future is single colour play doh.

Ah mate, you need a hug and a spa day.

And possibly a chat to your GP about health/hormones?
