Howtoadressthis · 27/08/2024 11:33

About 2 months ago my friend dropped off some car seats here on the way to a date they car seats are still in my flat although I have asked her to grab them she always says well why don’t I come round for a wine and pick them up but when I say I have stopped drinking so is no longer free to collect am I unfair to text to say I’m putting them outside please collect them. For conte t I have two children in a tiny one bed flat and there’s are two big car seats

Yes text and say ‘I don’t have the space so will be popping the seats outside for you to collect at 9 am tomorrow !’

I find ‘!’ Lightens the mood for this kind of thing 😂

Leafygreen84 · 27/08/2024 11:37

Yep tell her they’ll be on the doorstep tomorrow for her as you don’t have the room.

Marmaladelover · 27/08/2024 11:38

Did she lend them to you for your children or were you a convenient staorage place at the time . That makes a difference I think. If the first then you have a responsibility to return them eg via a taxi . How is she managing without the car seats ?

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 27/08/2024 11:38

I agree. Tell her they will be outside in a bag for her and you won't take any responsibility for them if she chooses not to come and collect them.

Createausername1970 · 27/08/2024 11:41

Definitely tell her you need them gone as they are in the way and you will put them outside tomorrow morning for her to collect.

FUBAR77 · 27/08/2024 11:41

Why would she drop them to you rather than leave them at her own place and what has she done without car seats for 8 weeks?

Msg again categorically stating you do not have the space and she needs to get them, ending with if you don’t need them I’ll put them outside tomorrow free to a good home, I’m sure someone will make use of them

Pistachiochiochio · 27/08/2024 11:42

Have you said "I'm not drinking but I'll have a lemonade with you"?

Is it possible she's trying to find a way to connect and she thinks you're brushing her off?

GoingRoundInOvals · 27/08/2024 11:43

As above.

"the car seats will be outside at 8.30am as I do not have the space for them"

bet you by 8.35am she's collected them

thequickbrowndog · 27/08/2024 11:47

That would piss me right off! Say get them today please as I need the space

Maddy70 · 27/08/2024 11:48

You can have a non alcoholic drink with her surely?

Just say i need the space back pleae xan you come and collect these before Wednesday orgerwise ill have to throw them out

Come for a coffee x

WaltzingWaters · 27/08/2024 11:55

So she just dropped them at yours for you to store? Not because you needed to borrow them? (As this would obviously be hugely unreasonable to do if she left them as a favour). But doesn’t sound as though you needed them, so yes, tell her they need to be gone by tomorrow otherwise you’ll put them outside as you really don’t have the space.

WaltzingWaters · 27/08/2024 11:56

Also, don’t understand how she’s got by for 8 weeks without the car seats 🤔

She has other ones she doesn't drive so she has a set in her dads car and a set in her sisters car

lololulu · 27/08/2024 11:58

Does her date know she has kids?

Why did they need the back seat space? 😂😂

Theunamedcat · 27/08/2024 11:58

Well she doesn't get to store a set in your flat

lololulu · 27/08/2024 11:59

Oh cross posted

SwingTheMonkey · 27/08/2024 12:00

If you had a garage or storage space it’d be slightly more palatable but she knows you live in a smaller place so this is absolutely unacceptable. You’ve done her a favour and she’s repaying you with CF behaviour. Text to say they’ll be outside tomorrow because you don’t have the space to keep them any longer.

WigglyVonWaggly · 27/08/2024 12:03

“Sorry friend, but I’ve now had your car seats in my small flat for two months and I’ve tried so many times to get you to take them back home. I can’t take responsibility for looking after them any longer. I’ll be moving them outside at 9am tomorrow because they are in my way constantly. They’ll be in the garden wrapped in plastic bags. Please could you come and get them?

LimeQuoter · 27/08/2024 12:05

It sounds like she's not too interested in what happens the car seats.

You could tell her you're doing a clearout and wondered if she still wanted her car seats. You could judge by her answer then. If she doesn't seem that interested or gives a vague answer, you could tell her the following day that you are bringing your unwanted stuff to a charity shop and whether you should bring the car seats too. It should give her a nudge.

If she says no don't, repeat yourself. say ' do you mind picking them up because we're short on space and I need the place in order for' ....visitors/working at home/school year ahead/whatever other reason you come up with!!!

If she still doesn't, then dump away!!!

SadieDadie · 27/08/2024 12:06

Just be blunt and tell her need gone by tomorrow. That's her choice then.

Ps, you can drink non alcoholic drinks even when someone else drinks wine. And also for reference, a coffee for both is also a good option.

TenderChicken · 27/08/2024 12:07

2 months is ridiculous, you are definitely well within your right to tell her your done housing them as of tomorrow.

SwingTheMonkey · 27/08/2024 12:08

It’s really not op’s responsibility to dump these car seats, even if her friend doesn’t want them anymore. The friend needs to come and collect them, regardless of whether she still wants them or not!

She obviously doesn't want or need them

sadabouti · 27/08/2024 12:40

Crack on, but cover with black bin bags to keep the rain off them.
