Children’s party food with no fruit?

AIBU not to include fruit in party food for 1-4 year olds? There will be sandwiches, crisps, cocktail sausages, chicken bites. Carrot and cucumber sticks, popcorn, party rings and chocolate fingers. Will fruit be missed - it’s so expensive for 20-25 kids.
thanks 🙂

That's fine if you've got carrot and cucumber sticks

Middlenamespot · 26/08/2024 19:04

If you wanted to add some fruit, I find watermelon a really good option for parties, one full watermelon would be plenty for 15-20 kids. And it keeps well after being cut into triangles and kiddies usually love it. Much cheaper than berries and won’t brown like apple slices.

fruitpastille · 26/08/2024 19:04

Definitely don't bother.

Ljcrow · 26/08/2024 19:06

Absolutely wouldn't bother!

hookiewookie29 · 26/08/2024 19:07

Years of party experience here....
No fruit......it gets binned. Kids just want crap.

CrimsonShades · 26/08/2024 19:07

It’s totally fine. Kids can have fruit in their own homes and in my experience most of it goes uneaten in favour of more exciting treats at a kids party anyway!

CrimsonShades · 26/08/2024 19:08

I would caution against the popcorn though, just because it’s a choking hazard for under fives!

Comedycook · 26/08/2024 19:08

It's fine!

Chemicalrainbow · 26/08/2024 19:10

I’d make the sandwiches nice, cheap, jam ones too. They’re what gets eaten!

Alwaystired2023 · 26/08/2024 19:11

No don't waste your money OP what you've listed sounds fab!

Flossyts · 26/08/2024 19:11

I usually just throw a punnet or two of strawberries into the mix. Never any left and doesn’t feel too pricey.

Moonshine5 · 26/08/2024 19:11

Next time I would lose the sausage, chicken and either the party rings or chocolate fingers ( a lot of upf - I know it's a party!). And use that budget towards fruit.
Plus meat eaters can eat vegetarian food, you've also covered the gluten free / lactose etc

toastcrusts · 26/08/2024 19:12

I normally get a big box of grapes and bag of tangerines...easy and cheap. Nice to have fruit but not absolutely necessary

Toottooot · 26/08/2024 19:13

Watermelon is all you need - every party we go to kids just love it.

SouthLondonMum22 · 26/08/2024 19:13

Of course. It’s a party, the kids want junk not fruit.

Bunnycat101 · 26/08/2024 19:14

I was going to say the opposite to some of the earlier posters and go for some berries if you can. I’ve found they’ve always been demolished and the veg crudités aren’t quite as popular (they do get eaten though). Every single kids party I’ve ever been to has a ton of sandwiches left over though.

tulippa · 26/08/2024 19:19

DS won't eat fruit so it was never included in his party food. No-one ever complained. I wouldn't bother with sandwiches either. Margherita pizza is much more popular and safer option.

BarbaraHoward · 26/08/2024 19:19

Nah I wouldn't bother. It'll get picked at while the junk is demolished. The veg sticks are enough of a nod to health!

rainbowunicorn · 26/08/2024 19:21

I wouldn't bother with fruit. What you have is plenty.

Fine but please no popcorn as big choking hazard!

Agreed.

itsgettingweird · 26/08/2024 19:24

That's fine.

Grapes with cheese cubes is the normal option for parties but I wouldn't with having to cut them up. You'll be forever 😂

moppety · 26/08/2024 19:24

The fruit always disappears first here! Maybe we have weird kids Wink but strawberries are gone way before stuff like sausage rolls (which I then have to eat, of course, to save waste). That said, I don't think anyone will care that there isn't any.

Party food is for fun - doesn’t need to be nutritional or ufp free
