Children’s party food with no fruit?

AIBU not to include fruit in party food for 1-4 year olds? There will be sandwiches, crisps, cocktail sausages, chicken bites. Carrot and cucumber sticks, popcorn, party rings and chocolate fingers. Will fruit be missed - it’s so expensive for 20-25 kids.
thanks 🙂

Fine but please no popcorn as big choking hazard!

Agree with this^

That's fine if you've got carrot and cucumber sticks

@violetsparkle
It would also be fine without carrot and cucumber. I'm assuming the party is a few hours long and over one meal (ie lunch) - I doubt one lunch of sandwiches and sausages, popcorn wrc while they're at a lrty would kill anyone

brunettemic · 27/08/2024 23:11

Why waste your money? They’ll demolish all the stuff they want like crisps and sausages then leave anything else.

Why can't healthy food be viewed as fun?

Because it's every day food. Party food is a treat, things you don't have on a daily basis.

Moonshine5 · 28/08/2024 00:29

Imma blow your mind ..... It can be both ⚡⛅

SaltAndVinegar2 · 28/08/2024 00:40

Clearly a lot of over privileged people on this thread... Soft fruit is an expensive luxury food. Strawberries and blueberries are a treat for most kids, not an every day food

Nope.
Sorry. Too much sugar is too much sugar. His teeth will not be grateful if he's having too much fruit sugars.

You say he eats loads of satsumas and banana, and "continuous stream if fruit".

How much fruit is he having a day?

Edited

This is not true - sugar in whole fruit is not harmful for teeth. Evidence shows that children who eat more whole fruit have healthier teeth comparatively.

Yourcatisnotsorry · 28/08/2024 03:32

Yanbu not to serve it but it always gets eaten at the parties we host/attend. Veg sticks not so much.

blubberball · 28/08/2024 03:50

I'd get a thing of strawberries, and a thing of grapes and cut them up.

I would caution against the popcorn though, just because it’s a choking hazard for under fives!

This 😊

An over consumption of fruit can contribute to tooth decay because if the sugars and acids.
Blended fruit is far more damaging.

But a "continuous stream" of fruit is not healthy.

Ukrainebaby23 · 28/08/2024 08:14

Fruit and sausages, followed by veg sticks and cheese went first at our 2 year olds recent party.
Carby things were left, except chocolate cake which was demolished.

MrsGrumpyKnickers · 28/08/2024 10:53

Definitely don’t worry about not giving them fruit. You’re not feeding them for a whole day and trying to give a balanced diet. However, I like your strawberries idea, and also the watermelon idea.

MisoHappy · 28/08/2024 17:46

No fruit is fine, but please no popcorn. Such a choking hazard. Hope your little one has a great party!

NothingAGoodCuppaDoesntFix · 28/08/2024 18:04

My kids have never even been to a party with carrot and cucumber sticks.
Every party they've been to has been pizza nuggets sausages crisps etc.
And with 4dcs in 19 years there's been a lot of parties too many in fact

MartinsSpareCalculator · 28/08/2024 18:10

I can't say I've ever been to a party and been gutted there was no fruit so I reckon it's absolutely fine!

Parents might be miffed because they all like to pretend their kids only eat whole foods but the kids will be happy!

Next time I would lose the sausage, chicken and either the party rings or chocolate fingers ( a lot of upf - I know it's a party!). And use that budget towards fruit.
Plus meat eaters can eat vegetarian food, you've also covered the gluten free / lactose etc

There's always one!

It's a party!! You know...the one time you are actually allowed to eat crap and have fun 🎊 🎉 🥳

Moonshine5 · 28/08/2024 20:26

IME parties can serve quality food everyone likes ps. Why do you serve children "crap"?

Because that’s what they want at parties. They want cocktail sausages, chicken bites and chocolate fingers.

They want to eat junk because it’s fun to eat junk with friends at parties.

I wouldn’t be serving cocktail sausages at a party full of 1 & 2 year olds. They are a major choking risk anyway, never mind running around while eating and playing.
