Post on a Sunday afternoon?

HotChocWine · 26/08/2024 03:59

We had post at 4pm yesterday
It's bothering me
DH was a postman for 10 years and they only ever did Sunday letter delivery in December
Why has post on a Sunday made me irritable?

Why has it made you irritable? Surely missing/late mail would be worse?

I don't know
I think it's because it upset a perfectly quiet chilled Sunday afternoon
And some of it was 1st class posted on 20th so technically late

Justsayit123 · 26/08/2024 04:08

Seriously?

God, it's in AIBU because I know it's ridiculous

Was it delivered in a fit of absolute chaos, à la Postman Pat and his useless special delivery service?

It was delivered by someone not in uniform
And it sent the stupid dog into a barking fit

After reading your OP I was thinking it was probably a neighbour who'd got some of your post by mistake, and Sunday afternoon was the first chance they'd had to pop it round. The fact the person who delivered it wasn't in uniform would fit in with that, as would the fact that some of it was late.

He was carrying a post bag and delivering to other houses
I wonder if he ran out of time on Saturday

Oh okay — that's a bit odd, then. There must be a backlog or something.

GRex · 26/08/2024 05:10

Can you articulate why you're bothered about this? It seems like it might be because your own dog barked, in which case the answer is training the dog.

As I've already said
We were enjoying a quiet afternoon, I was content doing my diamond art, and the interruption, and the post delivery just threw me

Oh, and my dog has always barked at the letter box

This is peak MN, upset and disturbed by some mail through the door??
Is no one allowed to come to
your door without previous notice?
Taking precious to new levels.

It's a Sunday. We have never had post on a Sunday.
And actually, no I don't like people just turning up

Mymanyellow · 26/08/2024 05:59

Was it a bill? If so he could have waited. Not only Sunday but a bank holiday too.

usernother · 26/08/2024 06:00

The post office can't win. Criticism for post being late. If they do their best to get post to people by delivering on a Sunday you get people like you complaining. Mad. Have you thought about taping your letterbox up on Sundays just in case they dare try it again?

DreamW3aver · 26/08/2024 06:12

What new levels of preciousness that a letter coming through the door ruins uour day. Just when you think you can't read anything more bizarre

Fiery30 · 26/08/2024 06:17

Perhaps you shouldn't open the door if you don't like to be disturbed. But the postman has done nothing wrong.

Bigcatpaws · 26/08/2024 06:20

Postman was doing his job.
It’s more of a concern that you’re bothered about receiving your mail ( given that it takes seconds and is non intrusive) Your dog barking is another issue.

Daisyoopsies · 26/08/2024 06:22

Bank holiday may have sent things out of whack.

JaneAustensHeroine · 26/08/2024 06:24

Peak Mumsnet indeed! Surely this isn’t serious? Society is in a worse state than I thought.

If you don't like your dog barking then you need to train it.

HoppityBun · 26/08/2024 06:35

I’ve noticed this and I’m really concerned that posties don’t get Sundays off anymore

grafittiartist · 26/08/2024 07:18

We were surprised to get post yesterday too.

NeverEnoughPants · 26/08/2024 07:21

YANBU. YABR (ridiculous)

Are you usually so rigid about when and how things happen?

PuppyMonkey · 26/08/2024 07:23

OP is going to absolutely blow her mind when she finds out about this new company called Amazon.
