I actually love this phrase. It’s not often apposite though so I don’t get to use it much ☹️

Yes, although older. Hadn’t heard it in a long time before a) the recent riots and their subsequent sentencing and b) Taylor Swift putting it in a song.

I quite like it as a phrase, it sort of sums up the “serves you right” view in a slightly less confrontational way.

Never ever heard it but reminds me of an old sheriff who used to say

Or my mother in law who said if you are going to paddle wear wellies.

I prefer the modern ‘fuck around and find out’. Much more to the point.

Like others, I haven't heard that in a very long time. It a version of 'reap what you sow'. I didn't realise it was in a TS song.

I'm not sure what the connection with grim is though. Surely that means something completely different.

I've never heard anyone actually say it. I know it's a phrase but the only place I've heard it is in the TS song (which isn't particularly recent).

5yo DD asked me the meaning of this after hearing it in the TS song. She now sings it at her 3yo sister when she makes errors such as falling off the sofa after being told not to jump on it. I can’t work out if I find it annoying or amusing.

@Timeturnerplease Your 5yo has an excellent grasp of knowing actions have consequences, I'd be proud.
